Size and the position....
Don't think he can withstand the NHL pounding in the corners.
He does have great first outlet pass ability hope that mitigates his punishment. - konalover711
I can appreciate that. At least you had a reason other than doom and gloom. Lotta that goin around. |

Would like to seethe flyers pursue a OEL and Kessel trade for Jake Ghost picks/prospects. Would be a good deal for both imo. - hello it's me 2050
Strangely, I could get on board with this. I actually like Jake but I also like Kessel.
Not a big fan of Ghost any more. I'd gives them cost certainty. Dont k ow what Kessel and OEL have left on their deals. Resign OEL and let Kessel walk. |

Haven't seen enough of him to evaluate. If he can slot in with Provey til then that's maybe not a bad thing. I think the contract may outlive his usefulness. |

Well, he’s another LHD, just like Provy. At 29, he’s already lost his top pairing job to Chychrun. He been in the league 11 seasons. Not necessarily a ‘young’ 29. I think the first half the contract would be fine, but you’ll be begging to get out the latter.
He’s tough to judge because of the team he’s on if you strictly look stats. +/-, which we all know is wishy-washy at best, is really up in the air when it comes to OEL.
But I think he’s gone from a top A-tier defenseman to a solid B, and a lot of money/term is still left. Especially for a second pairing guy.
A few years ago, I’d have done back flips for him in Orange. Now...ooh. It’s tough. High risk for a potential good reward, but I don’t think great. Maybe a change of scene would be good. Maybe.
He can still produce. He will for a bit. I’m not sold on him being a savior. Improvement? Certainly. Oh, yeah. But for the price and risk? Mmmmmm, I dunno, man. That addition might handcuff you. |

Seen plenty of world juniors guys not pan out. I think he’s promising but no chance he’s outperformed anything, he’s done nothing. I liked what I saw in his short stint, smart with the puck, poised. But I need to see how he holds up in a full season, needs to make the team first as well. - ClaudeFather
I get you. He is no shoe in. No disagreement there. I do think he has done plenty in his his career to suggest that he is trending in a NHL career guy.
If we were to bet right now on if York was going to be a NHL regular or a AHL or lower regular I would bet in a heart beat that he would be in the NHL on a regular basis.
His size doesn’t scare me. The kid is strong. He has put on muscle since being drafted. |

Does anyone else wonder why Reeves was not penalized for sending a player face first into the net pipes corner in the last game vs Minny.. leading up to his being a thug last night vs the Avs and his match penalty for his actions on a guy whose neck is under his knee while on the ice... the guy needs a long suspension and we all have to see Vegas for what it is and continues to be ... Bettmans shiny toy since his obsession with Crosby wore off...Frack vegas |

Skinner is 100% part of the core. Skinner is signed for 6 more years at 9 mill. He is not movable at that cap hit. Whether they like it or not he is a core piece for the foreseeable future. Their only choice is to build around him
No Your Core players are the ones you are building the team around. You are not building the 2022 Flyers around Voracek, Giroux or JVR.
Realistically Giroux could be gone after this season. Everyone around him says he is super competitive and wants to win so what is to say he wont decide to go elsewhere for a chance to win if this team isnt close. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Disagree. Just because he makes 9 million doesn't make him a core member. They are not building around him in any way. Core guys are ones you also don't want to move. They would move him in a second if possible.
This team isn't close and Giroux has shown no inclination to move. Ever. Wish he would ask to be traded. |

Yeah that contract will be bad. That's Jake money. First minus game and the villagers will be out with pitchforks. |

All very fair points. I am looking it as a 5 year deal. Instead of say going for Jones and trading assets then an 8 year deal for the same money OEL is making (maybe more). it is a risk though one I make, maybe they keep 1.5 retention as they are not a cap team. Hell expand the deal to get Kuemper who is on his last year. Address 2 needs at once.
Ideally you trade for someone maybe a little younger with 4 or 5 years left on their deal. IMO the flyers need 2 top level guys if they want to try to contend.

Yea the guy is a grade A POS, barely plays when the games matter. |

Reeves and Wilson are cut from the same cloth. Wilson has more in the way of hockey skills, but both are a disgrace to the league. I’m all for toughness, but kneeing another player’s head when they’re already in a vulnerable position on the ice—or the hair-pulling thuggery of Wilson—should be worthy of lengthy suspensions. |

Be curious how that 5 stacks up against the other teams core 5. - hello it's me 2050
I think we saw that this year😫
I do think there is hope for this team and new core because this core still need time to grow but I’m not sure the “ old guard “ core are showing the new core how winning / championship hockey is played.

The old core cant show the new core what winning hockey is as they have never won anything at all.... |

There in lies the problem! I’m not a hater but there is something missing with this team. The individual talent on the team is not as bad as their record was this past year. I would bet people close to the team have a good understanding of what’s missing but identifying the issue is step 1 step 2 is doing something about it. AV is the 4 or 5 coach with the veteran core so if they are the issue it may be time to change the core.
The leaders get the credit when teams win the leaders get the blame when you lose.
Blaming the 21 -24 year old and letting the 30 somethings slide for the current state of the team is a way to continue this every other year mess. |

Seth Jones would be a huge get. Imagine him and Provorov, years of a top-notch first defense pairing. Philly wants you, SJ. |

Yeah. He is talented. That would be a nice pair for years.
I liked the Ellis trade talk when it popped up. Thought his experience would have been nice for Provy but I can’t help but think Jones would be fun to see on that right side. |

I feel like it’s one of those spots that I just can’t get too excited about one option because it’s so important that if not him then the guy still must be found.

Well, we saw it go unfilled last year and we saw how that went down. So, yeah, it is a must fill for this team to move forward. We don’t have that talent in the pipeline right now.
There are options out there. It won’t be an easy fix though. Fletcher is going to have to earn his money on this one. |

I don’t see Jones or Hamilton coming here. A physical defensive defenseman who can play first pair minutes with Provorov might still serve their needs without giving up massive money or assets. - Djapana
Hamilton, yes:. I bet re ups in Carolina. If not, it'd be a max deal that does usno good.
Jones, no. His dad is in Philly. He's immediately top pairing with a very good Provy. He's in a city in which you don't stand out being black. Honestly, remember these guys aren't in their 50s like me. They want to be near their dad. When your first kid is born, you want Dad and Mom to be able to come over and help without flying back and forth.
I guess is we're one of his top three destinations right off the bat. The tough thing is whether you wait on him before committing our assets and cap ceiling to someone else first.
I always thought Homer was brilliant for getting Briere until he said that he offered Drury and Briere the same contracts and said he'd sign first one to sign on the dotted line. It's really hard as a GM to wait.
Because of the particularities of this case, unlike a Hamhuis or Oates even, I'd approach Columbus right away with the deal Bill recommends.
I got to say, even though I have no track record to brag about, that I am just not sold on Konecny. I think his trade value is pretty high, unlike someone like Lindblom.
I think you go hard after Jones. |
