So you are saying Price has 5 years left on his contract. His play will likely decline in the last 3 years of the contract. So the team getting Price has $52.5 mil cap hit for two years as an elite goalie and 3 years of pretty good. And that is if he does not have more injuries, which are more likely as he enters his mid to lay 30’s. Count me out.

Name the teams that Price could make a serious Cup contender that have an extra $10.5 mil in cap space.

Canes have guys coming up for raises in Svech coming off his entry and Hamilton is a UFA if he plans on staying. Necas is also off his entry level deal this or next year(too lazy to check) plus all 3 of Reimer, Mrazek, and Ned are free agents. At least one of those guys stay(Ned) and is due a solid raise, plus there’s the money for a backup/1B if that’s Mrazek/Reimer cool. Point being they don’t have much if any cap space after that’s done.

From the Canes I’ll give you a 3rd to protect Bean assuming they get Gardiner to waive his LNTC. If not I’ll give you a 2nd and 3rd to protect Skeji and Bean. You want more than that I’d rather straight up trade those guys.

A player only needs to be protected if they have a NMC. NTC don't count in an expansion draft.
