They have a nice team
How much is coaching ? - Anderdog
Exactly.
And funny, I don't see any Carolina Hurricanes number 1OA picks on that roster. Their best player is a second round pick.
(frank) tanking. |

I think it starts before that. How much is an Analytics model that identifies the right players and how it’s worked very well in a smaller market.
If only buffalo had the opportunity to build toward that model... |

The Canes turned Hanifin (5th overall) and Lindhom (5th overall) into Dougie Hamilton.
Svechnikov was drafted 2nd overall right after Dahlin (lotto luck but was their 10th season in a row missing the playoffs).
Hayden Fluery was a bust.
Necas drafted 12th overall (9th season in a row missing the playoffs)
They might not have “tanked” they sure as heck didn’t win though. |

Interesting a guy that lives 20 minutes from the rink and was with Carolina when Rod was hired could have been had. |

He has a 3 year deal for $1.8 million (Maybe $1.5? I dunno) already in place. Just ending getting deals for the rest of the staff done.
I think the reason it works in Raleigh is because that's the only place he wants to be. He said many times he doesn't want to be a coach forever and he really only wants THIS job because he's so passionate about it. I don't know that his heart would be in the same place elsewhere. I don't think it would work. |

No, they got lucky on some picks, but it's guys like Slavin and Pesce in the 3rd and 4th rounds that really were the gems.

For those on the Granato "Hype train". I would ask you this. Mr. Granato was part of Krugar's coaching staff. What was his responsibility? Forwards, Defense, Special Teams?, because all were equally bad for stretches of the season. What was his input, or lack there of in the practice's of the team, which we have heard from numerous sources were poorly run lackadaisical affairs at best. Was he not allowed any input? Was he not allowed to speak up and maybe be / act like a leader? I'm not buying it. What I see by choosing Granato is another easy way out pick.
FIX THE FRIGGIN TEAM!
1. An Actual President of Hockey Ops that has done more in the sport than attend some games in a luxury suite.
2. Hire an actual NHL coach. There are a handful available that can easily fit the bill if you take your firmly planted thumb out of your @#$.
3. Fix the relationship with your fanbase. Have a press conference, mea culpa your brains out, then get to fixing the problems with the team, the the arena, and the players..
This is a storied franchise that does not deserve what this ownership group has done to it. If they take the easy way out, and fans swallow it and stream back into that arena, then they deserve what they get....

From what I read he hasn't signed anything yet, he is still trying for extension for his staff, so we shall see how it goes. |

Assistant coaches, training staff, video coaches, equipment staff.... he's asked for all those guys to get taken care of.
Which is probably part of why he's taking less money too. Make sure there's enough cash to go around. |

The Hurricanes have had multiple draft picks appear in the NHL in each draft class from 2013-2017.
It’s much more than “luck”. They have a scouting department that is not afraid to select players of all stature and sizes that have produced and it’s paying dividends for them.
They are looking good to have multiple picks in each of the past few drafts as well (apart from Svechnikov and Necas whom are already in the league). Jarvis was leading the entire AHL in points before he had to go back to the WHL.
Drury, Rees, Puistola, Honka, Fensore, Gunler all are looking good so far.
Carolina is creating their own “luck” by taking advantage of every resource available to assess talent and it is paying dividends for them |

Curious why you give the GM a pass. Every time someone insists on a poho, I hear the GM isn't good.

In a must-win game for Canada, Power played a team-high (by nearly five minutes) 26:07, had one assist and two shots on goal. With Colin Miller out for the tournament, Power basically is the No. 1 defenseman at 18 years old. |

True enough. They have a drafting philosophy over the past few years of always taking the player with the highest projected ceiling regardless of position or size. They're swinging for the fences with every pick these days.
