Explaining Jack Eichel's denied request for neck surgery
Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams said the surgery Jack Eichel wanted to repair a herniated disc in his neck had 'never been performed on an NHL hockey player.'

Those are all about disc replacement. Anderdog posted about fusion.

Jack Eichel essentially says the Sabres wouldn't let him have surgery on his herniated disk in his neck.

His body, his choice?

"It doesn't work like that. I wish. ... I'm under contract with this team and they definitely hold a lot of cards on what I can and can't do."

- homiedclown

It wasn't the fusion surgery that he wanted, it was a disc replacement surgery. Sorry late to the party, should have seen homie's post's above

Why is it next year though, even if he had surgery in June, and it was fusion he could be back on the ice in Oct. or December. If Jack wanted to go to arbitration he could have done it already.

You are right, but the team is hoping surgery isn't even needed. The only thing that I got confused about is why would it be at the end of next year.

6 months recovery gets you to January
If I read it right says he has 60 days to request arbitration
That's 8 months
Gets him to March 2022

Sorry trying to do more than one thing

Like I said, I don't see it playing out where Jack has a surgery he doesn't want.

It's cool, I guess he could wait the whole 60 days if he wanted, but he could have already taken this to arbitration if he wanted. I don't think Jack would want to waist almost 2yrs of not playing hockey.

It's a needless step really. If it goes that route, he's gone. Does anyone really think Jack will back down here?

This only works out if the Sabres back down or things improve and they both agree that he doesn't need surgery

Before it was said
Team choice of course of action
So I'd lmagine arbitration ruling it what he would have to follow
What's everyone opinion here ?

Wasn’t the wait and see period re: Eichel neck injury supposed to end this month? 12 weeks or something? Team should provide an update of next step soon. Miraculous recovery. Eichel + #1 overall is like having the yellow and green corner monopoly. Go ahead and take a roll. Pretty much have to hope you go to jail.

At the end. More and more saying today is the end of the 12 weeks timetable.

He could also just formally request a trade today. Why burn a year and have a surgery you don't want?
