Myers is the better Dman, pure and simple, Reuby is correct as usual.

no idea. I'd like to think he stays because with a flat cap the space for a huge pay day might not be there.
- BINGO!

So no team friendly deal, the fans here think everyone should sign team friendlies, but Elias and Hughes should get 10 million.

He hasn't - they're the same size. Petey taller. Aho gained 3 lbs since entering the league

His upper body looks thicker to me.

Valeri Nuchskin is also better than Connor McDavid according to analytics.
- manvanfan

I am not a big fan of analytics but do check up on some of them. I usually try find out how info is gathered and who is putting in that inf, which determines the outcome.
Like +/- all analytics stats have some good and some bad.

it's okay to hope for one but you probably shouldn't expect one.

I think he makes it to UFA status then re-signs.

Canes guy Tulsky says public analytics are good, but there's only so much they can do.

Calls it the equivalent of flipping a light on in a dark room for a second and capturing a snapshot of where everything is at that exact moment. Publicly available info is like flipping that switch 300 times per game. What he's trying to do is add more context by flipping the light on 3000 times per game instead.

Not sure why Canes guy Tulsky would only want to capture 50 minutes of a 60 minute game if I am reading that right.

I'm feeling optimistic today....despite the ack of changes....

Demko = he is a clear #1 and was only getting better pre-covid
EP = gone for 1/2 the year
Pearson = he will bounce back to his 20g and 20 assist
Hodg = he's 4th in his draft for points already, he will only be better
Pod = Helps the bottom 6 next year, moves into top 6 year after
Schmidt = bounce back I think
BB - took a step, hope that continues
Rathbone = showed he can be top 6 IMO

Add a couple pieces, let some dead weight go with buyouts.

I think they are in the mix next year for playoffs.

Point is that analytics are getting better but what you have that's publicly available is dong a great job of telling you what's already happened but not how or why, which is what they're trying to do.

Like two guys take wrist shots from the same place on the ice against the same goalie, one scores, one doesn't. Is the goal scorer just more lucky or is he actually better at shooting? That's the stuff they're trying to put numbers to.

Like anything else needs a lot of context. Plus the eye test.

I have watched many games with carolina commentators and its remarkable how they use analytics compared to almost every other station.

People are forgetting that Benning himself was a NHL dman. Iโ€™ll trust his view on how to build a defense over anyoneโ€™s on this site.

Are you saying Schmidt plays well on the right side.
Schmidt struggled severely on the right side keeping the puck in at the blueline and setting up in the defensive zone.

- Reubenkincade

I agree, he was supposed to be this big upgrade in the top 4 , man I had to look up who that #88 plug was on d, thought it had to be one of the up and comers.
I have a lot of fun with my Canuck Buddies discussing this, fishing will be a lot of fun this season.

Jeff Skinner has been in the NHL 11 seasons and never seen the playoffs.

That sucks.

Hope Benning gets him included in the Reinhardt deal so he can fulfill his dream.

back to BPA lol

Only thing correct is P.
If B were true no team would screw up. Yet no teams have the same lists so how can this be? The term is bs so a new one is needed.

No one has said that, not a single person

Hamilton is a ufa, the top ufa. Kraken take a big swipe at him, that's my prediction.

This article only further says play the kids & let them learn. Waiver wire retreads are a waste of a roster spot when a prospect could get valuable experience. A coach would have to coach then & not just toss out lines & D pairings. Fire the associate coaches & hire coaches who can teach & develop. Til a team is a contender there is no reason to pretend.

Okay, I'll take a swing at trying to explain it to you.

Vancouver has a ranked list of the top 100 players available to draft.

When the pick comes to them, the strategy of BPA means that they pick the highest ranked player OFF THEIR OWN LIST. It means that if the players they have ranked at 5 and 9 are available, they should take the player they ranked at 5.

What the needs based strategy would say is that if player 5 is available but a forward and player ranked 9 is a D, they should pick the 9 guy and leave 5 on the board... If they feel they need D.

Saying that you want the BPA strategy used does not mean that there is agreement as to who the best player is.

Trust the team's scouts and go off their list. If you (the team) feels that D is so important they should have ranked him higher.

Lastly, as you get further in the draft, you can move to needs based. Picking the 105th ranked guy over the 99th ranked guy based on need is acceptable. Why? As the rankings get lower, there's less differentiation between the picks meaning it's more of a crap shoot.

So to conclude, BPA is actually just saying to trust the team's scouting process. It's not telling what your list is.

Other than him being an American, I don't know what the fans like about him.
