right? a team gets 7 picks per draft so having 6 for a rebuilding team is bad.

i mean if some rebuilding team had only 48 picks in 7 years, meaning 1 less than they were initially allotted by the NHL, you'd have to question the ability/vision of the GM, right?

- RealityChecker

Has there ever been a study showing that having more than the standard 7 picks, equals a better draft record? A higher quality or better value from the draft.

You have been doing a lot of whining about Miller and Bo lately, yet a few months ago, when others criticized Miller and Bo, you jumped all over them.
- Reubenkincade

I did? Whatever lol

I don't like crybabies on a Hockey club. If Miller and Bo are turning into that it's a problem IMO.

But you were fine with Elias pouting and also stating he needed another winger? Okay.

I wonder what the players think of the Van media. Do they all have that Petey mentality but just won't say it.

that seems like it would be a dumb study.

there have been statistical analyses showing that the most impactful players come from the earlier rounds and those picked earlier have a higher likelihood of playing in the league. i haven't seen anything about what you're asking.

although, it stands to reason that if you have more potential players, the higher the likelihood that 1 of them making the team.

this is assuming a random distribution i.e. not comparing 8 7th round picks vs 1 1st rounder.

finally, i've always thought JB's greatest attribute is his drafting. i've always wanted him to make as many picks as possible.

don't you think that JB would benefit from making more picks?

I commented on Elias' pouting? Seems like you are inserting words in my mouth here lol

Elias and Hughes are the future here. They get some leeway. Bo can't even stand up for his players when liberties are being taken...and I'm supposed to be concerned about his whining about MNGT? Give me a break Reuby...

Most likely. VAN-MTL-TOR media are the worst in the country. EDM-CGY-WPG-OTT not so much but they have jackasses too...but not like VAN-MTL-TO lol

taking this issue beyond specific players, don't you think this requires some type of course correction?

i'm not with you on the specific players but i agree that there is too much whining. too much crying about this or that, whether it's crying about the media being too tough or other BS.

this team needs someone to stop the BS. it's my opinion that the BS whining is allowed to filter out through the players because there is no strong leadership on this team off the ice. the GM isn't in control of this team and the players know it. this leads them to complain or whine about everything because they know nobody really is in charge.

I think the theory of having more picks would equal more NHL player but I haven't seen any math to show that it beneficial unless it's a pick in the first round.

Toronto had 23 picks past the 1st round in 14-16 drafts. Accumulated 114 points from them.
Vancouver had 16 picks and Accumulated 112 points from them.

When drafting for me, it's quality over quantity.

How the hell does a rebuilding team like the Senators only have 6 picks in this draft?

Because their GM sucks poop.

quality over quantity are just words. of course, i'd take 6 picks in the first 3 rounds over 8 picks in the last 3 rounds. that's just bloody obvious.

what i said was that based on a random distribution of picks, the more picks you have the better your odds are at finding players.

and if the person making the picks is better than average, so much the better.

what you're trying to say is that this is a choice between quality vs quantity. this is not a choice. a rebuilding team should be trying to acquire both, quality and quantity.

Is this opinion or fact, because IMO, if that is the future, we are in for another decade of mediocrity.
Also, Hughes was the 1st player I heard whining about MNGT, but he gets a pass, because he is such a great player, the type that championships are built around.....give me break Lordy

I guess mistakes don't matter as long as you can make them go away. Even if it does cost you a pick or prospect or NHL player. People tend to forget if they aren't able to see them anymore.

Could go through the entire NHL

- manvanfan

Yes yes, that's exactly what I said.

TO forced a bad signing, and paid a price in the short term to remedy it. Van made signing mistakes, and have let them drag out for a couple seasons that have impacted their ability to be competitive.

Mistakes were made, one team made the choice to pay up front and move on, one team let it drag out in hopes it would get better but clearly hasn't.

you dont need math to know that you have higher odds of getting more NHL players with more picks..

the underlined part has more to do with good vs bad drafting than it does more vs less picks.

and for the last part, you can have both.

I suppose and Agree somewhat. But to me the players need to focus on what happens on the ice. They may not like Benning or FA or the current direction of the club, but it's up to them to change it the best they can with what's given to them on the ice.. The poop show that was Melnyk and Ottawa looks to be turning around...let's see what the Sedins and Courtnall can bring to the table. I'm sure FA is setting up something for the next year or two to move on from Benning if things don't improve...and as many think here Green is not the problem.

I don't remember that but whatever you say. Your blatant hatred for Hughes maybe blinds your vision of where he may end up someday Reuby. Pettersson and Hughes may not be McDavid and Dxraisatil but they ARE players you build around. Time will show that even if you can't see it yet.

The more picks you have that have a higher value, would equal more quality. To get a higher value pick though, you are most likely having to give up current actual value to your hockey club.

If you draft and miss. That's a huge value loss to your hockey club, for years.
