Textbook 5 min major for BOARDING. It was high and late too --- but BOARDING is the penalty. It was a blindside hit, principal point of contact is his chin. He didn't even possess the puck which is why they called interference. But the CORRECT call was BOARDING.
If you can't see that, then I can't help you...

- TommyGTrain

Watch the replay, his shoulder went right into his chest. The correct call was made, I don’t see it being anything more than the 2 minutes that was called. Pretty sure no suspension or fine either but keep screaming about it being BOARDING 5 MINUTE MAJOR, it wasn’t.

It's cool, pens will find someone to trade with to get back into the first, or Betman will find some way to gift them a first

Toronto, well they're just screwed

Toronto thought they needed to add veterans who could help out them over the top. Trouble is not one of them had won a thing , who were they to look too ? Young stars that could not take the next step or old vets who couldn’t get it done. I think their gm should be gone.

is there any reason in the world Mitch Marner should be making 11 million a year?

It’s insane. They’re a team like EDM that needs to trade a star to fill out their lineup. I thought Marner was around 9, I didn’t know he’s at 11, that’s ridiculous. Theres no one on their roster id even want at their cap hits, obviously Mathews but I’m not even going down that road. This is what makes me nervous about guys wanting to add another big name, with Zib due for a raise we’d have 3 players making 10+ million, that’s a recipe for disaster especially with the cap remaining flat.

Talk about an overrated player, his contract might be one of the worst.

Think Dumbass is still happy about signing JT???

If Zib signs for 7.5 for 4yrs, that would be huge. Cap will be flat for another yr or 2. Maybe he will want to sign for a yr or 2 until the economic landscape is more favorable.

He is a really good player, over a PPG for his career, that being said, he hasnt scored a goal in his last 18 playoff games.

Exactly. He was a huge part of their problem, especially last night.
$10.9M for soft as Charmin, always try to flashy play, never throw the body, won't fight through the tough play Marner. Bad signing.
He even has 5 delay of game penalties for putting the puck over the glass in his limited playoff exposure.
They better hold on to him until the trade deadline to build his trade value back up some.

Not sure how you can point a finger at Tavares. He only played 10.5 minutes of the series.
They certainly should see issues with Thornton, who was too slow to be of much use. Also, I thought Spezza played well, but he is still winless in game 7's for his career. Not sure how much leadership he could give either.

He is a younger version of Rick Nash. I dont know what player the Leafs are trading but they need to get a haul back. Marner would have a lot of teams lining up for him, but what will the package be?

yeah, Tavares is fine, nobody's fault he got hurt

the Marner contract is the problem

there was never any reason for them to give him that kind of money, I can't imagine there was an offer sheet concern, and if there was, it wouldnt have been for any more than that any way.

Yep. He puts a tons of reg. season points and they jumped at it.

I'll tell you, I think after watching last night they might want to put a lot of thought into what happens with Sheldon Keefe. They didn't alter their game plan one bit at any point in their 3 chances to eliminate Montreal.

Rick Nash > Mitch Marner

Nash was snakebitten w/ playoff goals, but he was always visable out there and getting chances. Marner...not so much

For sure. I don't like that comparison at all, but then, I was a big Nash supporter.
There is no comparing them in terms of effort and engagement.
