I posted back in early March that I thought there was something wrong with Hayes, he looked slow and was passing up good scoring chances way too much. There is nothing minor about core surgery. We have seen what it did to Nolan Patricks draft year season and those who are older like me saw how it pretty much stifled Mikael Renberg's career. If the Flyers knew what the problem was then, they should have shut Hayes down and got him fixed up sooner. Letting him play as a shell of himself did nothing for him or the team.

Mikael had a preseason sports hernia. Had the mesh surgical procedure (now obsolete) and was in the lineup for opening night two weeks later (that would never happen nowadays). But by mid-season, he had a 100 percent tear. He had to be numbed to play... a giant needle under the scrotum that completely numbed his lower body. Had to have surgery after the season and was never nearly as explosive a skater as he was before the issues.

I will never forget... or forgive... Angelo Cataldi for going on the air and minimizing how significant what Renberg played through was. That was after he criticized Renberg for missing the first game of the playoffs to be there for the birth of his first child.

On another note, how does Mike Yeo keep his job this off season? Everyone on on their defense regressed badly and their PK was an absolute train wreck. I'm not one to usually call for people to be fired, but this dude has to go!!!!!

because of the awesome job he did the year before

Spot on. Core muscle injuries for hockey players are debilitating. It was clear the Flyers weren’t making the playoffs by the end of March, why was Hayes not shut down? So dumb. I guess it’s time to start questioning the medical team once again.

The fan base is fed up now more than any time over the last 40 years.

Called that injury months ago. Just shut the guy down. He was clearly not effective.

Re: Fed up fans. If Philly got a 2nd hockey franchise I likely hop on board and not feel much regret. This franchise gives us so little to root for.

Bobrosvky to be the backup in game 2, he stinks
- ClaudeFather

He made a bunch of 10-bell saves in game 1. 3 goals were on the PP. GWG was a breakaway. Florida turned over a lot of pucks in front of him. What's he supposed to do?

Cataldi is a complete Eagles turd! He's the reason that those stations became Eagles talk radio and I had to stop listening to them. He shouldn't even try to talk hockey unless Jonesy or Al are carrying the conversation cause he doesn't know jack shyte about hockey. What a wanker as most of those guys are!

Yeah, not sure you could really fault Bob on any of those goals although perhaps he over committed on that 4th goal. I guess the other guy has outplayed him for most of the season though(at least his stats are better), so perhaps they feel the change is needed. They can't go down 0-2 to Tampon Bay cause I doubt that they come back from that.

Point and Kucherov are pretty good. Kucherov hadn't played a game in 8 months and he scored 2 goals and had an assist. Special player.

Nice to stash a player like that away until the playoffs when there are no cap restraints.

Malkin back tonight I poked my head in the Pens blog after game 1 just to gauge the fans.....Unbelievable how much complaining goes on. It's as if they were on the ass end of a 50 year Cup drought.

Edit: Malkin out

I’ll be the first to admit it’s in the rules but it’s ballsy how much Tampa flaunted it.

Yeah I didn’t expect to see Malkin. Sucks because they really could use him. 0 2 hole is pretty tough. His skill is still there but his age related issue is definitely proving to be durability. Complaining about what? Sucks he’s out but you can’t really pin that on anyone. Game one loss was jarry centric, not reffing etc.

The officiating game to game is pathetic, blatant missed calls sometimes and Ticky tac calls other times. The league needs to figure this out

He’s a NY guy. The Eagles talk just pays the bills. He loves to stir the pot, but it always seems to me the Eagles pitfalls don’t really take any skin off his nose. If anything, it just gives him fodder to go on hackneyed rants.

Here I have the Sports Junkies. They’re terrible, too. Chad Dukes was pretty decent. Objective. but he said some controversial stuff that got him kicked to the road a few months ago.

There are several good goalies available as free agents, I would imagine he will get one of them. I think Dubnyk might be a nice fit, since Fletcher knows him from his Wild days.

He wasnt shut down because it was MINOR and had no impact on his ability to play.Pretty obvious. They would have shut him down if there was any concerns.

Gordon and Murphy out as Phantoms coaches. I sort of understand this given Gordon was the interim coach of the Flyers but was not retained as head coach the following season. Thus I think Gordon and Murphy will want to move up to the NHL level again. I also think its important that Gordon and AV are on the same page in terms of system and maybe there was some friction there also.

The point we are making is there is nothing minor about core injuries to a hockey player. Hayes was a shell of himself this year, and it significantly impacted the Flyers season. Given the drop in Hayes' performance, its clear there is nothing MINOR about this injury.

Would either team make this trade:

OEL (8.25) Phil Kessel (6.8 - Arizona retians 2.0) = 13.05

For

Jake (8.25) Ghost (4.5) Hagg (1.6) 2nd pick 2021 6th rd 2022 = 14.35.

Here are some players I can see the Flyers targeting (not my choices just who they may go after).
Forwards:
Bjugstad
Domi
Wennberg
Sutter

Defenseman:

Brendan Smith
Ryan Murray
Oleksiak
Jake Mcabe
Larson
Risto

Goalie:

There are some good goalies to be had. Whether or not they want to come here is another story. That applies to all the free agents.

Wonder what Landeskog will get? Would you make a run at him? Dump Giroux and Jake somehow. Resign Couterier ( or not) and sign Landeskog. That is the longest of long shots.

No thanks to any of those forwards you listed, all bums . The last thing this team needs is another 200 foot guy, that’s all we supposedly have. Domi is an idiot , hasn’t been able to stick anywhere he’s been , no thanks. I’d entertain the trade tho.

It CLEARLY impacted his ability to play. You could see it with every cut and stride he took for months. It was pointed out by me and others numerous times over the latter part of the season. Though to be fair I said I thought it was a hip or knee issue.

Something tells me that Johnny Hockey is going to end up in a Flyers uniform next season. Not saying it's a great move, but I have this nagging feeling that it's going to happen.
