I don't think anyone here can logically say Leo on our first line is a good thing. Some might claim it's necessary in light of our options, but anytime your first line has a checking line player cemented in the lineup, its going to get mentioned when that line fails to produce.
Bailey earns both praise and critique. He had a good game yesterday but also had a bad turnover that led directly to a goal. He frustrates people because they see what he COULD be, but are left with a seemingly pascifist approach in the ozone.
Mayfield has been terrible and caused TWO goals against yesterday. He's been bad and everyone knows it.
These three get brought up because the problems carry over from game to game.
Leo doesn't belong on a scoring line, Bailey isn't aggressive enough and Mayfield has been regularly bad.

Leddy and Mayfield would constitute the 2nd pairing, correct?
- JohnScammo

Yes with Leddy getting time on PP and PK and Mayfield with the majority of the SH minutes. I guess Barry thinks he’s a better defender on the PK then even strength if that makes any sense.
Fire Barry!

That’s me as well, have said that numerous times.

Palmieri and Pageau are very effective together. Besides, who would dare break up the PP line?

Are you honestly saying that you believe Leo is the best option to play on the first line right now?

I think the lines that are in place now will be your line going forward.

Yes. I don't want to break up the other lines. And no, I don't think Bellows or DalColle is a better option.

No Barry thinks it is, to keep continuity throughout the line up.

Well, they were very effective last game. For that reason I think they can cause problems for Pittsburgh, but they had been invisible leading up to that game.

OK...topics of the day:

1) Leo Komarov is not a first line player. That's the criticism I hear most about him (and agree with), and if he threw 690 hits in a period yesterday I'm not sure that statement would be any less true, but it would be a legendary accomplishment for a bottom-six forward, which is what Komarov is. The situation is what it is, though...the first line is where he is and where he's staying, so we all have to make peace with it (I have). But, to capt's point, we probably don't have to relitigate the issue every time the guy takes a competent baby step out there on the ice.

2) As for Bailey, I think he does more good out there than he gets credit for, but I get the criticisms because when he's bad, he's very noticeably bad; but when he's good, he's sort of under-the-radar good. I still believe he overthinks things sometimes, and when options A and B aren't there for him, he thinks himself into trouble. That's painfully obvious on the power play.

3) Mayfield...yeah...he hasn't been great. I think this season we're seeing that Toews was maybe a little better than we thought he was, and maybe held that pairing up a bit, because I feel like Leddy-Mayfield has been a noticeably worse pair defensively all season. I still like his physicality back there, and think that'll be even more important as this series goes on, and even more important if the Isles are fortunate enough to move on to face one of the other divisional teams.

Well see I’m going to blow your mind with this I know but neither of those players have to go on the first line...

Some of us think Komarov belongs on the first line when Anders Lee is injured. Some of us think just about anyone else is a better option for Barzal. Neither side will ever agree with the other. Great. Move on.

Trotz said Varlamov is “very close. I trust both our goalies. … Whoever we put in net we feel pretty comfortable with.”

Translation: Sorokin will start game 2

More:
Semyon Varlamov just left the ice at #Isles optional skate. He was on the ice for almost an hour. Cory Schneider remains out working with the extras from yesterday: Dal Colle, Zajac, Johnston, Hickey, Coburn.

You are correct, but I'm done with this convo.

Can someone post some pictures of hot babes or something to distract the masses?
