Well so much for “Best matchup”. Sorry for always being right fellas.

Any team is a bad matchup when you play like this. So passive after the first period.

Sorokin stole this for the Isles, while at the same time Jarry blew this for the Pens.

Wow.... Jarry is stank.

x4 That was a great shot, but playing small in the net. 4 GA when he's square to the shooter and very little traffic.

The book is in on Matheson. No peel away forechecks, Engage him and make him cause a turnover
- TheGame316

Not for nothing, that’s the book on every defenseman to ever play hockey.

Top 6, aside from Crosby who was flying, could have created more. Hopefully Malkin feels good by Tuesday and they've knocked off some rust.

But mostly, too many soft goals on Jarry.

So many no shows today. Dumo looked like my dad on the ice out there. Blue was brutal. Carter line was pretty meh all game. Even the first line besides Sid got beat to a lot of pucks.

Can’t have passengers with Geno out.

Yeah... Lots of shaky things became apparent as the game moved a long, but Jarry is the story. You could arguably say all 4 goals could/should have been stopped.

Not winning the cup with tending like that.

Boston and Caps are by far a better matchup for this pens team. Caps instantly start loosing assignments to try and make hits if they go down by a goal. The Bruins start to force offense if they go down. Islanders will quietly get more physical and bide their time for chances. That’s also without Trotz having his matchups. It’s 1 game, pens could very well still win the series but the Islanders are not a good matchup for this team.

The ones to hold the puck too long and try to do too much

If they make the smart play and get the puck up ice, the forecheckers gets caught flat footed instead of getting back and establishing back pressure

In that case, there's such so little reward for Matheson for taking on so much risk.

Agreed. The Pens coulda put this game away the first 40 minutes but Sorokin stood on his head and kept the game close. Kid is some goalie

Trotz (and Lou) have a way of making their teams have an underdog mentality. They maintain composure when they are down because they aren't supposed to win anyways. When the opponents play nervous, they pounce

Honestly the Islanders goalie shouldn’t have finished that game either. Everyone freaks out that Wilson punched a guy in the shoulder pad and threw a Runt to the ice that was actively engaging him, but that was a far more dangerous play on Jake.

Jarry can’t handle the workload , we’re (frank)ed. Too bad too because after this year our window really is closed.

Given how jarry has played, surprised Eberle didn't put this away earlier in ot

The Pens' defense, especially Matheson, looked horrible in that game. Also, while they were not necessarily soft goals Jarry let in some that he should have stopped. If he actually is injured then the Pens are in big trouble.

The Pens played defense was fine. Matheson, aside from his one gross mistake, was good. The Pens were good for the most part. Jarry however, was not. He cost the Pens the game.
