but you're right though, what happens if the next owner is worse than FA? so, let's hope FA doesn't sell the team.

just like the next GM could be worse than JB so that's a reason not to get rid of him.

i guess when they both retire or pass away, things might change.

- RealityChecker

That was my point. Why change anything if you fear the next move is going to be worse.

I also laugh at this mess still being put at MG’s feet. Weird how the owner is to blame with one GM but not the other. mG is gone because he wanted to re-tool.

No. This is JB's team now. He's had all the time to change the direction and implement what he wants. The good, the bad, the mediocrity: it's all at his feet.

Sure, he inherited a lot of nothing, but he's shaped it into his image now.

I'd be fine if he ran the scouting and GTFO of the daily GMing. But I highly doubt he'll take that demotion.

- NewYorkNuck

This is maybe the first season of what the team could look like. The best players in the league prime start at 22-23.

Van's best players are just starting to be what they could be.

This is the end of him trying to re-tool on the fly at the request of FA and protecting younger players.

wanting a GM who is good at the things that JB isn't makes him a MG GM type?

wow, who knew that MG has become the archetype of a GM that is good at managing the cap and pro scouting.

thanks for that definition.

does that mean that a GM who is good at drafting but sucks at every other aspect of GM'ing is now going to be referred to as a "Jim Benning GM type?"

- RealityChecker

Sure.

something to ponder:

maybe the only ones who get fired are the ones who have a backbone and disagree?

just throwing it out there.

Well it’s a good thing our drafting guru GM knocked it out of the park.

Imagine what our team would look like without top six picks OJ and Virtanen in their prime??

Listening to the loudest part of the fan base is probably not the best idea. More than 1 GM has said that they really aren't the smartest bunch.

wanting a gm who sucks at everything but drafting sure seems like a winning strategy.

How do you think you get a new core of players?

Elliotte reporting that the Panthers are letting Cam Lawrence go. (Vancouver ties). Wonders if canucks will look to bring him in.

Same guy who got marchessault, verhaeghe, duclair, all for a combined less cap hit than tyler myers

Is that the same guy who gave a 32 year old 3 years 5.5M and has been a healthy scratch for parts of the season and the first playoff game?

as if that's the only thing that matters when constructing a team. and thinking that the next phase of building this team will depend primarily on drafting.

he's the analytics guy, right?

do we have an idea on what the canucks' analytics department is? bringing in someone like that signals a shift in approach (hoewever subtle), no? would they (present management) be looking to change?

What would be the next phase of building a team? Surrounding them with vets that have already earned their next contracts? Paying for players that know how to win.

It would be another rookie, for sure. Pattison wouldn't go that route, and he would give autonomy. Along with deliverables.

He is kind of what the Canucks already have in Ryan Biech, although that PcS tool they created would be great to have.

I believe him and Ryan biech worked together prior. Don't know a ton about him, but I'm hearing he's a huge reason for the success in Florida.

I'm down to bring in someone who can find value in free agents and bring in guys like verhaege, duclair, etc. Rather than guys like beagle/LE/roussell

me: now that the core is largely there and needs to develop, the focus on building the team will be more on trades/signings and pickups. therefore the team needs a GM that is better than JB at cap management and pro-scouting.

you: it's impossible to get good complementary players without overpaying. JB already tried that.

you're basically a battered woman who thinks that you're going to catch a beating no matter who you're with so it's better to stay with the devil you know.

it's okay, mini, not every GM sucks. there are even some out there that are pretty good at cap management, pro-scouting... and stuff.

Why was he fired if he did a good
Job and the team is in the playoffs?
