Giroux is above average defensively. I just feel the need to voice that....it is a fact evidenced by every available fancy stat place, the eye test and logic. You don’t suppose all of those many coaches that the Flyers have had would all choose to play him on their PK if he wasn’t. He isn’t Couturier level but still very good defensively. Mostly it’s his super high compete level that gives him an edge.

Everyone always points out his offensive points which are significant. Also he makes some mistakes on defense but has more good moments there than bad. Anyone who has two observation brain cells to rub together and watches him play knows this.

Right he’s so above average he’s was moved from center to wing with less defensive responsibility because he’s above average hahahhaha so clueless. Also, he’s on the pk because he’s good at faceoffs

I understand what you said about Giroux earlier, and you know more about these things, but I would believe that if the RFA offer is significantly lower because of factors that have nothing to do with player performance, then the agent would protest, and it would be understood that you are heading into murky territory of having to extend 1 year QOs and arbitration and all that and the player is going to flee the nest first chance he gets. That's an unhealthy dynamic going forward.

You'd think there would be more hardball being played, but there's really not.

Hockey players tend to be governed by a (misguided) sense of loyalty. They routinely take less than they're worth for the sake of security and honor.

And there's also the incestuous relationship between management and the agents themselves -- so many GMs are ex-agents and many current agents have management aspirations. Everybody's inclined to keep things buddy buddy.

The irony in this post is hilarious.

He was moved because the position switch was supposed to lessen the physical wear and tear on his body as he was getting older and isn't the biggest guy.

If you are going to make an argument at least state facts.

Looks like Foerster is going to be okay for the start of next season. Sam Carchidi is reporting a separated collarbone. This is great news. I saw the replay, and it looked scary.

This is the danger of playing a kid at a higher level in hockey when they are not physically developed enough. Foerster showed already this year he can play with the big boys in terms of his hockey IQ and skills. However this being his second injury in less than 20 games, freak accidents or not, tells me he needs to bulk up this off season and most likely will need more time with the Phantoms.

something tells me someone with "All Lives Matter" in their profile has a poor relationship with "facts"

Why do you say this? All lives don't matter to you, just some? And if only some, then who chooses which?

I can only go by what AV publicly states about Giroux, and its been very positive this year. AV has not been afraid to state negative things about players so I think its fair to take his word for it. Giroux is no longer a top player in this league, but I think he is a good player and a good example to the younger players. If he wants to move on from the Flyers I think he would be a great trade asset at the deadline next year if the Flyers are once again not contending. If he wants to stay, I would sign him for another 2-3 years at a significantly reduced price. As I have stated, the Flyers need to revamp their core and get more top end talent. They did not have 1 player in the top 50 in scoring, and last year not 1 player in the top 30!

Chuck fletcher has also said he likes our team. GM’s also say “thw coach isn’t going anywhere” and then two weeks later fire them. Av said the canadian players struggled this year when everyone here laughed at that pointing out giroux & coots are canadian. So you believe everything you hear or you just pick & choose what’s true or not.

You know how Flyers were said to have a bias against Russian players? Lets say that there was a conscious move to change things, and to spur scouts/GM office etc. ownership decided to send emails out during the draft process: Russian Players Matter!

Would that mean other players did not matter? Or Russian players should matter more? Of course not. That is a stupid take. It was a reminder in the existing context that they should not matter less (as they historically had with the drafting crew).

So how do you explain the frequently acrimonious or at least testy state of matters? Drouin, Nylander, Pietro...

By the way, who else took less? Does this not seem to be a variation of the "hometown discount" theory, which I understand is pretty much discredited?
