The North actually has one big disadvantage.

Once a team wins the division, they'll likely need to go play in the US.

In our current state of affairs, that implies a 7 day quarantine without practice before the NHL urges them to play ASAP.

Add to that they won't be at home wherever they play which will be similar to the bubble last year.

I think that's a disadvantage.

Leafs 7-1-2 last 10. Playing poorly, not ready for the playoffs. Can't turn a switch to be playoff ready.

Habs 4-4-2 last 10. They're not playing great but they can hit the switch to play playoff hockey.

Once the playoffs start, nothing else matters. The regular season and past performance are meaningless. Even the Leafs history of choking in round 1 does not matter.

What matters is the first shift, playing sound positional hockey and taking advantage of the opportunities as they occur.

I believe this is the year that the Leafs will overcome the demons of their past. I believe they will convincingly win the first playoff round against the Canadiens.

So if I'm mathing correctly, our game Friday night has a tiny bit of value.

If we win, only Vegas, Colorado and Carolina would be higher seeds than us, should we advance to the semis.

If we take one point, Florida would be higher.

If we lose, Pittsburgh and Washington would also be seeded higher than us.

Play for the win.

Yeah it's worth the win to be honest. There will be enough down time for the players to rest before game 1.
