Once the playoffs start, nothing else matters. The regular season and past performance are meaningless. Even the Leafs history of choking in round 1 does not matter.
What matters is the first shift, playing sound positional hockey and taking advantage of the opportunities as they occur.
I believe this is the year that the Leafs will overcome the demons of their past. I believe they will convincingly win the first playoff round against the Canadiens. - spatso
Other than the direct correlation between regular season record and winning percentage in the playoffs, this is correct.
We really appreciate your contributions around here. |

I think that factors into the “cheaters never prosper” part of the algorithm which is then multiplied by the Carolina/Florida quotient. They’re screwed, mate |

Interesting.
I must admit, I didn't like their chances anyway because of the repeat conundrum.

Obviously, Vegas/Colorado and Florida/Carolina/TBL all have lower odds cause they have to get past each other. Redo this thing with them in the final four and it’s a very different story. Right now though - THE CUP IS OURS |

Is it cheating to miss 2 40 goal PPG players for the majority of the season and still slide right into the playoffs as a contender? |

The North actually has one big disadvantage.
Once a team wins the division, they'll likely need to go play in the US.
In our current state of affairs, that implies a 7 day quarantine without practice before the NHL urges them to play ASAP.
Add to that they won't be at home wherever they play which will be similar to the bubble last year.
I think that's a disadvantage.

Is there a 7-day quarantine when entering into the US that's enforced by the NHL? I thought the quarantine was enforced by the Canadian government upon entering Canada. |

I think the odds just factor in the chances of getting there against the potential of winning once there. Something like - it’s so much harder to get there that it takes away your advantage once there. |

I read in some reputable part of the internet that there was some discussion of allowing home games to be played in Canada |
