lot of people on twitter surprised by Jacques Martin being fired and I don't get why, a new coach should have the absolute call on their assistant coaches.

Hiring a new coach and forcing an assistant on them is starting dysfunctionally from Day 1

Clean slate

except Allaire of course, lifetime job for good reasons

- jimbro83

I didn't really know if Allaire was being kind of drug by Hank all these years until I saw the progress of guys the past couple years. Who would have thought that Keith Kincaid would look like a legitimate starter before the year?

I don't think the Rangers are going to make any drastic changes except for a center. They won't trade for Eichel if the ask absurd. They will address the toughness to the 4th line issue and a veteran defenseman

I dont know what to expect this point

It’s Chris Drurys baby now. Pressure is certainly on him. I think we’re in very good hands tho. Forever a winner his whole life, could be good karma

Does Allaire have a place in Seattle though?

Gorton deserves another job imo. Quickly also. How he built this team so fast is pretty impressive, getting fired or not

100%. He's part of what pisses me off. I could not care less about where Quinn lands.

It's a changing of the guards, for right or wrong. They did an excellent job constructing the team to this point, now it's time to turn this blueprint into a masterpiece .

completely random but we should look at michael bunting out of ARI. 10 goals in 21 games and could be had for cheap. Especially if blackwell is taken by SEA. If we move a winger or 2 for a center we need players like him to slot in and produce 30-40 points

Just hope he doesn't have to make any important decisions around Christmas time

Agree with this. If you look at how Tampa is built, they don't have a tough core, but they add guys like Maroon and Schenn and suddenly they can handle those heavy games. The Rangers don't need to overhaul the team to add some toughness, and toughness does not have to be their game, they just have to be able to handle the bigger teams. You can do that with a 4th line winger to play next to Barron and a 6/7 d-man.

Skill still wins in this league. It would be ill advised in my opinion to trade skill for grit, or to overpay for someone that brings both like a Tkachuk

Toughness can also be a factor of who is brought in as head coach.

Not to mention they might have some of that toughness already in the system that can hit in 1-3 years. See Cuylle and Schneider, among other.

Toughness is needed to support the skill game, 100%, but it should not be the identity of the team. It would be a waste of assets if we traded away everything the rebuild brought in for toughness.

If I am Buffalo, I offer a package deal to JD, Gorton and Quinn. I also ask them to begin negotiations to deal Eichel to the Rangers.
- spatso

100% agree with this. Any perennial under achieving team should consider it, but Buffalo more than the rest.

Trade broken and disgruntled Eichel for a haul and pick from the talent you know better than anyone.

I have my doubts about Quinn but Buffalo will need a relationship type coach to patch things up after the whole Eichel ordeal. Gorton probably snuck the badge out when he cleaned out his office and will win the draft lottery 2 more times.

We can't take that chance, time to focus on another Center, I say we make Florida na offer they can't pass up and it includes Kakko, for Barkov I'll drive Kakko to Florida

I hate even typing it out, but what about something like Kakko, Chytil and Robertson (or another of the D treasure trove) to Winnipeg for Scheifele? Or, if the 3 assets are too much (I don't think it is), Kakko, Chytil a 3rd and a 4th this year.

I don't think he's untouchable, but I'd like to see what Kakko can do in a different system before trading him. His possession skills are unreal and I think there's a snarl side of his game that's going to blossom now that he's been in the league for two years.

Kakko's 19yr old season was better in every way than Kucherov's at 20 and the progress from a year ago was astounding. No chance in the world I would trade him right now.

Like I said, it feels wrong to even type it.
But, I think Scheifele would make a tremendous difference to our middle six, whether its him or Mika on the top line. I lean toward Mika, personally. Making Strome one of the best 3rd line centers around. I definitely want to see what more growth from Kravtsov looks like. And Buch somehow became our most dependable, consistent all around forward. So, who do you move? I wouldn't like seeing KK go, but the return would certainly soften the blow.
