Bleeding on the paper are we, Bill?
The write-up for today is a tribute to your acumen as an observer and author.
Your distress is mine. Your ability to express it allows me to stop mulling about it and do something else. I needn't rip off my scabs when you took grapeshot to the heart and stumbled into the light professing your loyalty.

Our problem (if we are to be conjoined) is that we are now dependent on a CORPORATION to provide a product that we want. A product made of living, breathing and so very fallible, humans. That we have this arrangement of a soulless mob of profiteers filling our need for a connection to a sport on an emotional level......
We are left with hope and little else as the billions slosh from one ELITE bucket to another and we act like we are critical to their plans.

Ramping up our apex value as fans, to become a focus of good intentions, will (centuries from now?) be when we commoners acquire the franchise, ala Green Bay.

In the meantime, we do the pillar and post thing. Never in control and appeased when our 'masters' note the impacted bottom line. So it was and is.

So let's unpack our wisdom to the void and see what stares back.

This year depressed and rarely elated my dumb fannishness. It was tough but after 54 years, my skin is scarred and abraded enough to grit my way through another season.

I will try, 'to maintain an even strain', not to fail as a fan.

Time for the early post-season to be viewed as an opportunity and surmountable challenges.

Maybe next week.

I agree, I just don't think we are getting any cap help from the Kraken.

I'm assuming they want to ice a competitive team, don't forget about that, JVR is still a good hockey player, a veteran and a person of high character on a short term deal with only two years remaining.

I don't think Seattle takes him, not with the other options the Flyers can offer. Remember cap space will not be an issue with Seattle, they have to get to the cap floor at least. Even so, I don't believe NAK will earn a spot on this team next season if Fletcher does his job this off season.
- jd250

Cap space could be an issue for Seattle, you don't know who they are taking from other teams, someone will give up draft picks to take a high priced player. And they might be signing up the FAs to make them competitive right off the bat.

Watch Seattle take Hagg, or Braun, and leave us with the expensive guys. Hoping to trade Ghost before the ED. Braun is our only decent RH D. Means we need to sign Savard and another RH D.
- bradster

Haag is a possibility. He is young, cheap and I thought overall played OK this year. He at least is not afraid to hit someone and be physical, which the Flyers desperately need. Braun has a limited set of skills as AV pointed out recently, but works hard to maximize the skills he does have which is why the team likes him so much. Still I wouldn't be upset if we lose him, because he is not a legitimate top 4 Dman that this team desperately needs.

From the last thread...we have to stop believing the Flyers are the only team the can solve the cap floor issue for the Kraken..it really is not that hard for them.

My comment only looks at one piece because it was to counter the other poster. I could come up with equal arguments on why the Kraken should take JVR and why they should not...could do the same for Jake, Ghost, and NAK. My point is that the Kraken will do what is best for them and the Flyers should do nothing to influence the process. Losing anyone of those 4 players has pluses and minuses for the Flyers, but none of them should require us to push the needle in any direction. I also have seen very few non-Flyers based mock drafts that have the Kraken taking JVR to get to the cap floor. What JVR brings is very one dimensional. If they are not going to play that kind of hockey or that type of system, JVR is not a good fit for lots of reasons. The coach they select will be important in all of this.

What is the worst case scenario for the Flyers expansion draft wise? Seattle takes a player making no money, opening up no cap space. I fully expect this to happen.
- PLindbergh31

If they manage to escape both rounds of expansion only losing PEB and somebody like NAK/Hagg/Braun, while other teams are losing impact players and good young players (multiples in some instances), Flyers would have to be pretty stoked.

I'm seeing reports that Messier and Tortorella are going to be candidates? I can't see that at all. I don't see the Rags being able to sell Tortorella to the fanbase. And Messier what coaching experience does he have?

I know Jake did it a season ago, but I just don't think its in his DNA to play that way. He comes across to me as a pond hockey player that cares about the pretty play more than anything else. I don't doubt he wants to win and is passionate, but if he plays like he did a season ago, its the exception, not the norm. Regarding shooting, sometimes the best pass is an accurate shot that generates a rebound, versus trying to force a low percentage pass through a bunch of bodies.
- jd250

Jake came up under Hitchcock in Columbus. He knows what it takes to play both ways. He's demonstrated it many times throughout his career.

poop that happened this season... wasn't just him, it was a team wide downward spiral. A lot of the mistakes Jake made, being on the wrong side of the puck, flying the zone, getting caught up the ice on turnovers... you could file them under "doing too much" and freelancing outside of the system instead of simply being incapable or unwilling to play team D.

Being what the Flyers projected unprotected player list looks like, I won't be upset about anyone that is taken.

The leadership sucks! G is not captain/leadership material at all & it all trickles down from there. He got a big contract & packed it in. Perimeter player. It’s constantly been the same thing on his watch. Multiple coaches, multiple GM’s, different players brought in yet the team has consistently sucked at starting seasons well, starting games well, playing down to suck competition. When are the stat w****s going to get a clue and realize his point totals are basically meaningless. The most overrated player in Flyers history.

We know Provy and Sanheim will be protected, but I don't think we know who the 3rd Dman protected will be; will it be Myers or Ghost? I guess it depends on who has more trade value or more upside. Was the fact Ghost was not claimed off waivers a sign that he has no value or was it due to cap restrictions many teams had? I can see a scenario where Ghost or Myers are traded before the expansion draft and the other is protected.

If someone can get a list of the potential cap hit verse production players that would be cool. I’ll say it again, JvR will be towards the top of that list. Most likely he’s gone .
