I didn't state the Flyers were more or less effected than other teams by COVID. If you read what I wrote, I indicated some teams were more effected than others, such as Vancouver, and it is very difficult to measure/quantify the impact it may have had. I also mentioned it was NOT a legitimate excuse for how the Flyers performed after the first month of the season. - aantny88
It is true that some teams that had positive tests faced greater challenges....for sure. I’m sure we’ll here EXACTLY that today. But in truth teams like Boston and Washington had the same If not worse Covid related challenges. The difference...The Flyers as a team crumbled under their Covid issues. The young guys, Patrick, Lindblom, Myers, NAK, Hart never seemed to get on track after looking good the first few games and badly regressed. Guys like Konecny, Ghost, Sanheim had issues early but played better as the season went on....but really all three in my book are better then that. Add in down years from Hayes and Provy and the this just wasn’t a very good hockey team. |

The fact that people are all over that post is ridiculous, the guy drafted middling talent and we are stuck in no mans land. His best pick was Provorov, who in his fifth season has regressed which is very troubling. The top 10 of Provys draft was can’t miss as well outside of Zacha and a ton of talent after the top 10. I’ll give him the TK pick. - ClaudeFather

TBH...I'm blow it up because this team has a seriously engrained culture that allows for not showing up and giving their best effort. That is a serious DNA flaw and it needs to be excised from this organization to allow any of these young players to reach their potential - matman31
Where does this organizational DNA stuff come from? Would you put the Flyers team that made it to the final in 2010 as part of that engrained culture? Because last time I checked, they only made the playoffs on the last game of the season, vastly underachieving for the talent on that roster. How many of those players are still left on the team. Only one that I know of and that's Giroux. Is it his fault that the cultural DNA you speak of continues a decade later? That's a lot of blame to put on G, considering he's one of the best players this organization has ever had!

The young guys are the problem, outside of Farabee, not one of them had a good season. - ClaudeFather
One of the biggest problems....Giroux was the best Flyer this season.

Flyers are also one of the youngest teams in the league, which may have something to do with crumbling under their COVID issues? Completely agree that the regression of the younger players who were being counted on to take the next steps was the biggest issue with this team.

I have zero confidence that Chuck Fletcher is the guy that can build a championship team.

After the dynasty he built in Minnesota? Look at the shambles they are in now without him.
This seems like a hot take |

I’m sure it did....to me it’s an individual thing. Farabee was great. Hart wasn’t. What’s Haye’s excuse?....I’m not sure what Fletch does, with some of these young guys. He already noted he’s trying not to put to much of this seasons results into his young players severe regression due to Covid. Time will tell. |

First, 2010 was 11 years ago and is irrelevant to this team. Second, I am not a G basher and have no issues with his nightly effort. If you can't see that there is something that allows this team to consistently take periods / games off on a regular basis and has done so under many different coaching staffs, I'm not sure what to tell you. I don't expect them to win the cup every year, but I do expect them to work their tails off in an effort to achieve that goal. When I say DNA, this is what I am referring to; what is it that allows this to be acceptable? Because it sure as hell doesn't ever change |

Good start early on...then a total failure this year. Can’t say I disagree.

Mental toughness and resilience is difficult to measure/quantify. Not sure what Hayes' issue was, but I agree he was incredibly frustrating to watch all season. Could have been playing through a nagging injury all season.

I definitely see what you do on the ice with the way they seem to take periods off, but I don't know why it happens. Different players, different coaches and it is been a pervasive issue, even during Snider's final years. I do know that it's rare for one team to dominate a full 60 minutes because there is another team playing too that isn't just going through the motions.

G is not an in your face type of Captain and he never will be....and without Wayne here, there isnt a bad cop presence i the locker room. Im sure Laughts does his best to try to be that guy based on his persona but im not sure he can get the attention of everyone. We may need to bring in someone like Foligno if he's willing to leave the Leafs. I think he'd be a perfect veteran to combine with G.

Im tired of this group but you just know they’re going to contend for a division title next year - Just5
I know you normally come at this from an everything is terrible view...but I think if Fletcher can make some really smart moves, he can unload some of the parts that don't work, and get some that do and maybe they can compete...I agree they will not if they come back in with the same roster. I liked what I saw from the Farabee, Allison and Hayes line...but if we needed to move Hayes to get a guy like Eichel then you make that move...Lots of potential chess moves for Fletcher...but he needs some partners. If he gets stonewalled, then we should expect us to only be as good as we were last year., and that would be the ceiling. |

I think that could be said of most GMs until they hit pay dirt. It really is soooo much more luck then skill, regardless how we try to dress it up postmortem.
We were so confident we were hitting homeruns as we drafted too...you just don't know. |

I know that expecting a high level of competition on a nightly basis isn't going to happen, but when you roll over and get "pantsed" by inferior teams (this happened a lot this year), there is something really wrong. This organizations history has been that it's not always the most talented team, but it will outwork you on a consistent basis. That '87 team had no business taking that Oilers team to seven games with all the injuries they had, but they did because they worked their tails off. I think most of us would accept the results if this was the mindset this team employed. Unfortunately, like you, I don't know where their non-compete disorder comes from. I'm left at making major player changes, because I do not believe that this coaching staff forgot how to coach this year. |
