I simply don't see how keeping a player in the lineup despite his poor play would impress anyone... he's pretty (frank)ing dumb, but at least he's a man of his word... - Pat1993
Yes. I'd rather somebody think I'm dumb than think I'm not a man of my word. I believe a person's word should mean that much and if you can't stand behind it you've got nothing. The second you start compromising your morals and ethics for short term gain you need to realize it was over long ago. I was raised Christian but I'm not going to break my morals and ethics for short term gain - feel free to take that however you want to

Staal didn't deliver, and if I'm a player that is considering the possibility of playing in MTL I'd find it more concerning that vets are getting this kind of special treatment... I respect your commitment to morals and ethics, but I don't see them as being an issue at all here.

What if the deal was if you come play you won't be a healthy scratch? One could argue he's not really playing right now
Just let every team In the playoffs It's already watered down smelly garbage all for the sake of revenue, Next season 50% of the teams will make the playoffs how embarrassing! Let's put the emphasis on winning again, There should be no more than 8 teams In the playoffs.

it is, yes
(interesting and civilized conversation though ) - Pat1993
true and refreshing. it is always interesting watching who can just have a civil conversation versus putting each other down and/or trying to prove they know more than the other guy on the internet.
this really is agree to disagree territory. - kicksave856
I get his point. Pretty sure he gets mine. It's been polite but nobody is convincing anybody so good time to move on. I'll just make sure I get any commitments from Pat in the future in writing...

let's say this agreement does exist, it exists between 2 parties. and in any agreement, both parties have to hold up their end of the bargain. Staal's end of the bargain was that he agree to come AND contribute something. he has not held up his part of the bargain.
if i agree to buy 50 feet of composite flooring from old man pete and he only delivers me 30 feet, i'm not paying him for 50 feet. even though i promised i would. i'm not letting him fleece me like a shepherd without a spooling rod.

Staal agreed to waive his no trade clause. That's it. The argument of compete is something you inserted. As reported the agreement was Staal wouldn't be a healthy scratch if he waived his no trade clause. Staal did his part
