Agents and players may not trust him or the organization. Use Eichel as an example, he was just Staal's teammate. I think teams like NYR and LAK would put together better packages but let's pretend MTL has the shot at trading for him. Eichel's comments the other day suggest he doesn't trust his current team, why would he want to hitch himself to another team he may not trust? Agents and players have long memories.
And the deal was made apparently because Staal didn't want to waive to go to Montreal and the way he was convinced was this promise. Don't make a promise you can't live up to and don't blame the other side for trying to hold you to your word - Takemedrunkimhome
Well if there is a deal in place, time will tell if the gamble pays off.
If it doesn't.
Bye bye Bergeron..

Staal and Perry will contribute more in big boy games the Habs will see in the semifinals/finals should they get there. BTW, Perry has been very productive most of the season. Great signing. - nedmates
Yeah, well, didn't see them do much in the big boy games against Calgary, when they almost lost their playoff spot. This fallacy that they will suddenly turn on a switch and be useful in the playoffs, just because it is the playoffs, is wishful thinking.
Staal is done. He has nothing left.
Perry is a niche fringe player player, a depth forward that can come in if someone is injured.
That should be the expectation. |

No, I'm not saying that at all.
I'm saying if Staal dresses for the TO series and plays like poop, there was a deal.

He has 9 goals and 12 assist playing fourth line and power plays…. Perry has earned his place, has experience and leadership skills. Caufield has proven he can score 3 on 3, never goes into corners to fight for the puck and will definitely not stand in front of the crease…. Yes, he has scoring abilities…..but he still has some growing to do(no pun intended) - Slimvinnie
I think it will come down to Perry or CC for the last spot.
I suspect Perry will start the first game, take it from there.

I know people often think MB is very dumb, but I have a hard time believing this alleged agreement, it just sounds too silly... what would be these "future consequences" anyway, he will feel the wrath of the Staal family? - Pat1993
pffft, I'm with Pat, its a business, not a friendship club. He sucks remove him
that it that all
Player will want to come here if we have sucess, not because MB says he will play them |

Based on the rumours of him and Molson sitting down to discuss the future I'm betting his extension is already signed and will be announced after the season...mostly because I'm a sports pessimist |

I agree, if Staal plays over KK, Caufield, Lehk, or whoever, it would be reasonable to think that's because there was a deal in place. And, I was not the most prominent Bergevin haters, but if he really made that kind of deal, it is such a big negligent mistake that he should be fired. Staal is costing this team. |

Agreed. And it's not like Staal was lighting up Buffalo and fell off after the trade either |
