Also, money was not as much of a thing as it is today, advantages of playing elsewhere with less tax burden also plays a part into it.
I am sure Damphouse was more than happy with making $4-6 million playing in San Jose, rather than Montreal. - Mashadar
that is also surely a factor... more taxes and more pressure aren't necessarily a very enticing combination |

they played during a time where there were more quebecers though in MTL and across the league, so the spotlight wasn't on them as much. also, with social media it's a completely different ball game - Pat1993
voilà. you got the point. if Habs had more than 2, who are currently injured, we woudn't have this debate about having none in the lineup for the 1st time in 100 years.
Leafs have 11 Ontario born players. 11.
but let's talk about something else. did you post your roster for game 1 againts TOR? |

I think you've kinda missed my point though... the habs might have more Quebecers if the number of Quebec born players playing in the NHL hadn't dropped so significantly... this "debate" stems from an old mentality that considers that Quebec's culture is in danger if there aren't enough french guys on the habs' roster.
and no I haven't posted it, just agreed with some lol

Well I know Tanguay would have loved to come back but they poop on him, Lapierre loved it, Bouillon, Theodore said he would do it all over again even if it ended badly. |

yes I know all that. it is certainly more difficult to find players, I'm not denying that.
but that is not an excuse. they have to work harder and show a real commitment to draft them, which they never did.
do you really think Serge Savard would have such a poor record? or if the Nordiques were still a thing, do you really believe Habs would not make an effort to draft more Quebec born players?
poser la question c'est y répondre.
Tatar - Danault - Gally
Toffoli - Suzuki - Anderson
Armia - kk - Perry
Lek - Evans - Byron
and if kk doesn't wake the (frank) up, you can expect Staal to replace him as soon as game #2 imo. |

Well at least it's obvious that when you trade for Vincent Damphousse.

I mean just look at Julien Brisebois, he's going out of his way to draft or sign alot of guys from here, his franchise seems to be doing alright. Does not have to be all first round picks |

Less than 10 guys in the past 20 years is still not many. I believe most good Quebec players wouldn't come and play for the Habs. Grinders don't really mind it since the media aren't constantly poopting on them. |
