A big difference is that they lost Tavares for nothing- & that was a huge mistake on their part
At least we should be getting a bunch back for Jack - jdfitz77
The Isles also had much more of a foundation then we do right now sans Jack.
Barzal, Bailey, Lee, Nelson, Beauvillier, Leddy, Pulock, Toews (dealt to Colorado), Cizikas, Boychuk were there in place when JT left.

True

No Peter is robbing us, cause he got his way. But if I can get a Dman that balances out my top4, and 2 young top6 forwards that balances out my scoring I could actually have a better overall team then a top heavy 1 line. Eichel is a good hockey player and don't want to trade him, rather build around him, but 1 player doesn't make a team. - Buff36
You’re telling me that if Adams is handed two compliance buyouts to use this offseason, you’re telling me you wouldn’t want Skinner and Okposo to be street free agents in 10 minutes or less ?
I’m not blaming Eichel one bit for exploring his options. Does it suck as a Sabres fan ? Absolutely.
If I were in his shoes though I know I’d be doing the same thing though, especially if they jerked me around on a surgery I wanted to get. The team is robbing him more than he is robbing us. |

I’m not disagreeing with that one bit that we can get pieces back that ultimately help this team finish higher in the standings.
What are the odds another top 5 Center walks through the door though in the next few years ?
Unless we luck into Wright or Bedard - Pegullaville
Probably doesn't happen, but if I can have 3 good Centers I could make it work. |

Well we’ve got:
Dahlin, Cozens, Quinn & our top3 pick this year that should be “core” pieces
Then we’ve got a handful of pretty good talent in the rest of the kids
And we should be getting (at least) 2 “core” pieces for Jack, + a couple others
And the return for Sam & Risto
And likely high picks in the ‘22 & ‘23 drafts
So we should be in pretty good shape ** IF **
they don’t screw up this rebuild like we did the last one |

I would like our foundation over that one when you consider what Eichel will return. Plus what young guys we have and our top 3 pick this year |

In the next 4-5 years the Sabres can add talent and have Jack shoulder the weight of top-line duties while the youngins learn the nhl game, like what happened on the Island. They say JT left for nothing, but in that light he didn't as he allowed the youngins to grow |

What does 2 buyouts have to do with anything we were discussing, that's a stupid ?. And Jack is not just getting a surgery, he is getting a Surgery that has never been done on a NHL player and actually has only been used on 2 boxers in contact sports 1 has come back from it and 1 is still recovering. His first phase of recovery was agreed upon by both parties in April rest and PT and the next phase would be looked at in May. Would I want as a Organization that has a lot of money invested want to look into and get as much information about this type of surgery that has never been done on a NHL player. I think I would. What Jack did yesterday was posturing to get what he wants. I have no problem with how this Organization has handled his medical with unknown territory. |

What I am saying is that when a player falls out of favour with an organization, the organization has no problem trading or cutting that said player and not honouring the contract that they to agreed with at one point in time via buyout or release.
It happens all of the time in professional sports.
I am not going to fault Jack Eichel for using his leverage as being a talented hockey player for wanting to do what’s best for himself after 6 years here and taking control of his own fate.

I don't either with Jack it's his life, but his first phase of his recovery program was agreed upon by both parties. But don't say the organization is F@cking him about having a surgery that has never been done on a Hockey player or atleast one that has come back and played after it. This is new territory I would think any organization would be looking into and getting as much information that they could on this. May 15th will be a month since the 1st phase was implemented, we will know more shortly. This was Jack pushing the button to get what he wants, and he has to look out for himself. But I don't blame the Organization in this aspect 1 bit. |

It won't be more salary then what he makes, a couple of late firsts and Rossi (Possible long term health condition of his own with severe COVID bout). Perhaps it will be somewhere in the middle, but there will be a bidding war for him. KA won't be talking to just LA and NYR. The whole league will throw something at Buf. - SDSabre
GMKA needs to decide what route to take with Eichel trade. Sell for futures or sell for the now. I figure there are aboit 20 teams he can make a deal with.
Eichel is not Lindros and not gonna get a kings ransom for him. |

Disagree
I think we’ll get EXACTLY a “Kings’ ransom”
And it hopefully starts with Byfield.... |

I’m a Skinner Stan. If they can compliance buyout him with no long term cap effects it should be done immediately.
It’s a no-brainer |

The point of the post was to show that there is a double standard to contracts.
We would all cheer in the streets to get out of Onposo’s contract.
I’m not going to hold a gun to Eichel’s head to take his ball and go home despite signing long term with us due to us not being able to make the Playoffs the last two seasons. |

If Eichel were healthy, and motivated for that matter, there are maybe 5 players in the entire league that can impact the game more than he can in the right system.
The Sabres will lose any trade involving Eichel, that’s something we have to come to comfort with.
The best we can hope for is that Terry and Kim do nothing other than write checks and we get the right management in place to turn things around here, as that is the root issue of the team the past 10 years - Pegullaville
It’s kind of odd that you place a condition on how a player impacts a game and when. You point out if Jack plays under the right system and he’s motivated then he is in the top 5 of the entire league. I don’t see it that way. First he’s the captain and unmotivated is not an option. Jack because he’s Jack has been given more leeway then anyone and Krueger gave him free reign to play the way he saw fit. That’s why Ralph and Jack are still tight. Players in the superstar category like Jack are given a long rope when it comes to systems. The majority of coaches in the league let their stars play with some creativity. If you want to see a coach ready to make Jack accountable like every other player on the team then wait till Torts rides into town. |

Eichel had 78 points in 68 games last year.
Led the league in O-zone time of possession.
Was tops in o-zone entries and one of the tops in o-zone exits in possession.
He was flat out dominant and was probably robbed at a Hart finalist nomination despite playing under Kreuger and having Olofsson on his LW at 5v5.
What more did you want him to do ? |

No one “wants” him
But he’s a significant salary we can take back to make the Cap work for them
And he doesn’t have any trade protection like Brown does

What I would want him to do. Be a captain if that’s what he wants to be. His interview was not one of a leader but more focused on what everyone else can do for him. Any reference to playing somewhere else should have never came out of his mouth. That interview will go down as one of the best ever cryptic messages telling his team mates he’s checking out. All the stats, analytics and personal trophies can’t make a player a true leader but for some reason you bring these up as must haves. I’d rather have McCabe myself as the captain. No Hart but he has Heart. |
