So if Washington gets Boston, I'm just not seeing how Washington can get by. They are really banged up. Last night's game they were missing Ovi, Backstrom, Kuzy and Carlson. And Wilson left the game. Those are huge blows left and right.

Wilson came back. Oshi left however. He got twisted up in a hit on the boards. He did not look comfortable as he left the bench. Strained something.

The Pens can only hope that the Caps find a way to beat the Bruins, and while I don't wish to be insensitive to Blackstrom, but I will be shocked if that series goes passed five games. I think the B's are going to roll them.

I dont think JR deserves any credit other than pissing the players off so bad that they rallied around him quitting.

JR would have made a bunch of trades that blew up team chemistry and he wouldn't have been able to pull off the Carter trade, definitely not for what Hexy paid.

He gets 0 credit in my books.

Sorry man, but that's kinda crazy. Rutherford became pretty dislikable near the end. I hated his comments on Schultz. He also quit the team in some kind of petty rage. That being said, this team is mostly his work.

Lest we not forget Craig Patrick for drafting Sid, geno, letang, and shero and his team for choosing all his players that we still have. Not to mention Sid for being man enough to carry his giant Richard and this whole team for half a year at the same time.

Patrick had two no brainier picks with Sid and Geno...

All GM's attempt to identify players they feel are the right fits for their team and no GM bats 100%. The best GM's have stinkers, bad contracts, bad trades, but there are degrees to everything. Sometimes they take a chance that makes them look brilliant and some that makes them look like "wtf were you thinking?"

My issue with JR is he took chances when he didn't need to and seemed to spit in the face of logic. That said, Matheson and Ceci are working out nicely and we can't only attack him with when gambles go wrong. Mind you, the Matheson trade is still a bad one and 10 out of 10 times I don't make that trade regardless of how he's performed.

So on one hand, JR's have given the Pens a very good lineup with more depth than they've had in a long time. On the other hand, Hex has his work cut out for him next season because of those moves.

Hex could have made more impactful moves if JR didn't put them in this position, but JR's moves also made more impactful moves less necessary.

We can't frame the argument to fit the narrative. For this snapshot in time, JR's moves are working out.

Some interesting tidbits from Jesse Marshall today about Pettersson's accomplishments this season:

-Finished with the highest expected goals for share on the Pens
-Lowest 5v5 xGA/60 of any defenseman on the team
-He also allowed the least amount of shot-attempts per 60 at even-strength

So to all of you Pettersson-haters... you were wrong. lol

I'm not going to act like I'm not guilty of being hasty to judge players based on bad starts, but this one particularly drove me batty. Pettersson is an above average 2nd pairing dman who had a rough start to the season, but so did SOOOOO many good players in this league because of what a weird year it was.

It's going to sting if the Pens have to move him.

Yeah I know his play is actually pretty decent. 2nd pair D is exactly what he is and he pretty much makes exactly what he should. He’s not going to elevate but also won’t be an anchor. He just irks me.

That being said I also don’t think he is by any means irreplaceable. But the downside is unless the team is 100% ready to move on with a poj/Friedman/rikko in his place it’s going to be a lateral move at best.

I imagine zucker will have to go just based on his price, as well as one of petts or Mm for flexibility.
