good press sure - but that doesnt equate to playoff games (and the money that comes w/ it).

maybe he saw this season as yes, we have a great prospect pool, but they are so far and away from competing w/ the upper echelon teams in this division and got spooked.

honestly, i saw the same. they arent close yet.

This team is very one dimensional. No reason why Gorton/JD couldn't have replenished the cupbords, and add some gritty/talented guys in draft/FA/trades.

I know Messier was being self serving in his comments, but he is absolutely right with the "playing in the street and alley" comment.

- rrentz

they did in the draft (schneider/couylle(sp)).

i guess dolan doesnt want to wait for them. and i've been hard on JD for saying " we need to be tougher to play against" after the bubble and then doing nothing about. But this season had so much uncertainty around it, whether it would even start/finish. I feel he didnt want to make a big play this year and would just look at this season as a developmental year.

i agree they didn't address it but man it was almost impossible to with all the dead cap money they had this year and the potential for rookie bonuses. I guess it was the flat cap in the end that ended up costing them their jobs.

I'm with you on that. However, if someone would have said three years ago that we would add Panarin and he'd live up to every penny of his contract, add a Norris finalist on the back end, and have back to back top 2 picks, you might have expected better results too. What JD was admirable, but at some point, Gorton's record was pretty mediocre here.

I think the best thing as fans we can hope for is that he s the modern day version of Dale Tallon, and if Drury replaces him can finish the job.

Gorton did have a spotty record. Lost the Stephan Trade, Lost the Miller, RM trade. Signed Smith, All that dead cap space. But he Won the Nash trade, drafted Miller. The Fox trade was a no brainer. If the Rangers didnt get Laf and KK, how would his tenure be judged??

Zib and a 2nd for Brassard is one of the biggest steals in recent hockey trade memory

He is gonna get 20 games so the Rangers won't be able to trade him this offseason

Gorton's moves were 50/50....him being let go isn't end of world.

JD is a hometown boy. We all grew up either watching him play and/or watching him do the color on Ranger games. We all hated seeing him go to St. Louis, and we all rejoiced upon his return. No that he is gone again, and so soon, I think we all just feel upset it worked out the way it did. I would've loved to see JD hoist the cup as team President. He took the firing for his boy Gorton. He made his choice....gotta respect it, but oh well...let's move on.

personally I think the team makeup had some serious flaws but I think JD and Gorton were smart enough to know that and address it

but obviously Dolan did not like their answers when they discussed it

This is expected but should be appealed. Mantha wasn't injured, same precedent as what happened to him and Panarin.

This is definitely I think a huge part of it. JD and Gorton wanted to continue the process and Dolan is like .

Gorton did a fantastic job, we have a pool of prospects with a ton of potential we wouldn’t have and be worse off with bloated contracts for aging players, Dolan is impatient and completely out of touch, Gorton got us out of a sinking ship that Sather constructed

it's funny how the tide has turned on twitter

the normal extremely reactionary people are all like "wait, it's probably not that bad, maybe this is a good thing"

and those of us that are always level headed are all pretty much like the sky is falling

I would trade Kreider over BUch in a heartbeat ( I understand the $$ and contract differences)! Kreider is a guy I am really down on. He has all the tools to be a dominant player, but simply doesn't do it. IMO Kreider is the biggest disappointment on this entire team

you never know, Dolan could be pissed at the Kreider contract too

I wouldn't dismiss any theory

I thought Jimbro was making a joke, it was that surreal.

Edit: I mean, Dolan can't be that stupid, can he?
