Rathbone is the only draft pick I have ever gotten that I wanted, other than a few obvious ones, Linden, Sedins.
I spent my whole playing life as a checking winger or a defenseman.
On that particular play, Rathbone over commits to McDavid, the puck carrier, leaving Draisaitl wide open, a goalies worst nightmare.
It is his 1st game hopefully the coaching staff addresses any defensive issues with Rathbone and don't leave it unaddressed like they do with Hughes.

They should have benched Miller after he gave Edmonton 3 goals. Consistancy is lacking in that organization in so many areas.

Overcommit? Nope. Goalies job is to expect the pass on any 2 on 1, unless his Dman blatantly takes away the pass, in which case the shot is high danger and no different than a breakaway. By why give the shooter those odds? On any 2 on 1 you have to make a decision at some point to try to eliminate the pass. Most defenders with hold back until around the hash marks and right when the puck handler is about to make a decision, the DMan makes his move and tries to catch the puck carrier off guard, which is what Rathbone tried to do. Smart move IMO in an otherwise extremely difficult situation.

This is how I saw it. He kept macdavid honest and then tried to eliminate the pass. If he didn’t shade towards Macjesus the puck would have been in the net before Benning could say and stuff

No, but I think we can all agree different managers have different skillsets. Would you rather have JB or Gillis for drafting? What about when you're going for the cup?

It feels a bit premature on the Rangers part, but as was referenced in the article, they might want the new guy to be in charge of the exit interviews so he can get a better grasp on what changes need to be made.

At this point, and given the body of work done in the last 7-8 years, I think its less of a gamble to take the route of new management than it is continuing on with this trend and trajectory.

Obviously the goalie lines up to the shooter but I said "they should be expecting the pass." Which is what Holtby did and got across quite easily to make the save. The Dman should try to prevent the pass and lead the shooter OVER as much as possible towards the face-off dot into a low percentage scoring area - ei. forcing the pass. Again, Rathbone played it very well considering the situation and most importantly the players involved.

Certainly GMs are different. I would rather have JB drafting.

I wouldn't want to have a GM that can't draft and mortgage the future again for a team that isnt ready for a cup.
