I would say even with Edler, I think that hit was more of a mistake in the moment of a hockey play, whereas there is no grey area with Wilson punching guys who are down and pikedriving dudes into the ice. If Edler gets 2, Wilson should get 20.

exactly... then you take "track record" into account... how many late/questionable hits has Wilson been involved in?

if it was Kadri, he would have been suspended indefinitely (not joking) - which is exactly what the NHL SHOULD have done.

but they are more vested in getting Ovi and Chara another cup

The best explanation I have heard:

For 99% of guys, sticking out the knee is an involuntary action. The guy is getting by you, and you stick something out.

It’s dangerous and needs to be penalized. But not premeditated.

Of course, ignore everything I wrote if we are talking about Ulfie.

The Rangers did it all wrong with the fights. They should of took there time and nailed Wilson when he least expected it. Low bridge, hit to the numbers, flying elbow to the chops, doesn't matter. Not like your gonna get suspended anyways, the backlash would cause the NHL a political nightmare IMO.

that's what I would have done... wait until sometime in the 2nd period when the guy starts getting cocky that there's no retribution... probably start with a nice slewfoot

Wait, I’m going to get you by using my vulnerable knee on your vulnerable knee isn’t a premeditated attempt to injure?

Whoever did it would be suspended and lose a poopload of money. No question they were told that before the game. That’s why they had they performance art fights to show the world they care.

All the "drama" going on about Edler fighting Simmonds for kneeing Hyman and now Fu3khead Wilson with his sh1te....and all the other dirty stuff in the league...

Easy fix:

If you do something on the ice that is illegal with intent to harm and it in turn results in an injury to the receiving player, automatic suspension for the same period of time that the other player is on IR.

Edler, out a month.
Wilson, out for the season.

Discuss.

(because this seems fair to me)

- Barb34

With Edler, and most other incidents, how are you going to prove intent to injure ? Wilson was pretty cut and dried.

I think the gameplay for the Rangers was to do a whole bunch of fights, hooks, slashes after the whistle and be like "OK Parros what are you going to do?"

At the very least this game probably gets Parros fired after the playoffs. This was a massive mistake.

The Rangers are just making it look even worse and its by design.

whichever fashion you approach retribution against Wilson, its all in Parros' face - as it should be

Parros was called out by the Rangers statement - absolutely correct thing to do. Statement issued by owner - takes onus off coach or gm.

Poop players would be encouraged to take the year off if good players hurt them.

Suspension without pay, goes to the NHL Pension Fund for injured players.

more or less... yes - certainly where a head contact is involved... I have a harder time when someone gets a leg injury where you can argue there wasn't blatant attempt to injure... any head shot should be dealt with that way.

and absolutely no CAP relief the for the suspended player

- BorjeFan4Ever

Yep, good call....and the player gets suspended without pay so that money can be contributed to the pension fund.

(replied with that to AW too, sorry for the redundancy)

each time I think the TSN guys can't get more stupid... they surprise me.

Parros suspends Buchnevich? Mantha goes at him and eats lumber - too bad.

Ya, it would be tuff in some cases for sure. The cut and dry incidents, easy call.

You have to use track record and other factors.

But the point is, players would be soooooo reluctant to do dirty sh1t that there would be less and less infractions to have to examine.

Kinda like high sticking rules, so many less high sticks now. (that's a guess without facts)

I love gritty hockey as much or more than the next guy. Love big hits, fights, scrums---sort of, but I love the physicality of the game. But I hate the dirty stuff.

I started to think that every Ranger was going to try and fight a Capital to get the whole bench in the box...disrupting the whole game....a sort of on ice protest. That would have been awesome.

The penalty box would have been tight.

I simply can't understand why the Habs haven't called a timeout to ask the officials for a few 5-3 powerplay opportunities... so the greatest player in franchise history Cole Shortfield can actually get in the game.
