According to the Dom Luszczyszyn betting guide in the Athletic, the Canucks have a better chance of beating the Oilers tonight than the Habs have of beating the Leafs.

Yeah, no.

- Atomic Wedgie

probably cuz Leafs rested 2 days, and habs are playing 6in9
but its like 33.7 and 34.7, so pretty much the same

money puck has Habs to win 33.7 and Nucks 27.1

No, I think he’s just looking at different combos. Brooks got a good look. He knows what he has there. Bring the new guy in, give Engvall a few games again. No biggie

I'd pay money to watch that...

"Mr Parros... aren't you being just a tad bit hypocritical here"

Parros ... "not at all... the Capitals owner told League Commissioner that I should be lenient with Mr Wilson"... 'cause we have to get Ovi and Chara another cup.

I wish they would give Hutton a couple of games ... don't think it would be a bad idea to give Sandin the night off... 'cause chances are Tom Wilson-light Josh Anderson will be trying to run the Leafs defense again tonight - like he always does.

also, what's up with Sabourin... I would think a bit of knuckle dragging capabilities might be helpful pre-playoffs... hope Matthews and Marner are wearing the wrist protectors tonight.

I agree on the Hutton thing. He can get a few games here. Doesn't hurt the team to do so. These games don't mean anything to them really.

Sandin is on PP 1 though so I think Keefe wants to keep looking at that.

I think the plug ins have a short leash.

Brooks made a bad pass up the middle similiar to 1 Engvall made before he got demoted.

Happy Bday Brooksy, enjoy it from the press box. 🤣

And I’m sure you’re right in part too.

It's funny, because I was outraged at the incident. Then I had an objective conversation with a friend of mine, and we broke it down the way the DOPS says they do - which is to first take away the nameplates and teams to try and be objective about the play.

So it starts with a scrum in front. Buchnevich falls, Wilson falls. You could argue Buchnevich is actually taking Wilson down with his stick under him. They go down. My friend thinks there's a punch to the shoulder. I see two glove-on punches to the head, but whatever. Now I think this is a suspendable offense on some level on it's own. The punch, I'd initially thought, was to the back of the head (which is illegal even for the UFC), but it's not. It's really more the face/jaw area that he's getting. Regardless, the DOPS sees this as a normal goalmouth scrum that happens all the time. The phrase I hear most often here from people is, "That used to happen all the time." I try to point out that "used to" is the operative phrase here that should point that in order to make progress, we need to keep it that way.

So after this play, Panarin comes in and initiates the contact with Wilson trying to pry him from the pile. They wrestle and Panarin is thrown down to the ice. I don't disagree with this here. You pulled the tough guy out of the pile? You're lucky he wrestled you down and didn't drop the gloves and pop you in the face a couple of times. I do disagree with the continued wrestling where he throws him down to the ice a second time after having the opportunity to recognize that he's helmetless and, well, Panarin. The DOPS saw this as a scrum where nothing of consequence happened. They don't punish based on "what-if", so it's a nothing-burger.

So the question is - name plates off of jerseys - should any scrum where a guy has an opponent down on the ice and punches him a couple of times be suspendable? Or do we just feel that way because it's Tom Wilson and he's a giant POS?

Buchnevich's response to Mantha yesterday is very clearly a suspension and was very clearly stupid.

Edit: Pressed Submit before finishing one thing I wanted to say: The question I wonder is, let's say it was just one game the DOPS doles out to Wilson - are the Rangers still incensed enough to lead to yesterday's dumbassery, or does that mollify things?

Draft 'schmaft - the Leafs best goalies ever (in my lifetime) came from trades anyway.

Cujo
Eddie the Eagle
Felix the Cat

Hey wait a minute - maybe I have unlocked the Caramilk secret to drafting goalies - they need an animal nickname!

poop - we don't have any of those right now :-(

New ? - do we rename our current goalies to give them new animal nicknames or go on the hunt for new goalies?

Freddy Flounder Andersen (I'm sure many here will love this clever nickname)

Jack-a-lope Campbell

Dave "The Raccoon" Rittich (because trash pandas are cute sometimes and loveable but eat trash and are very problematic most of the time)

Mike "Hermit Crab" Hutchinson (hides from public view, generally not seen and certainly when seen not viewed as lovable or desirable as a pet. More of a 'huh look at that a crab'. + Crabs make people of ill repute instantly scratch their naughty bits).

OK I'll stop and go back to doing some actual work now....maybe.

Good post.

The Athletic did a good job of breaking it down. I hadn't really formed my thoughts until then, and I kinda agree that there was an over-reaction.

The one thing that gets me, however, is throwing a guy to the ice when he has his helmet off. That's just stupidly dangerous. But I don't know if it is suspendible.

As per your last post, if you remove Wilson from the game, the bullpoop blustery animosity gets pushed to their first meeting of 2021-22, and there is one fight, not six.

everyone is entitled to their opinion. frankly stated the "taking the nameplate off" part is total bs.... cause the DOPS ALWAYS makes a statement about "previous player behavior"... so by definition the reputation has to and should be part of it.

for example - if a player runs into a goalie... and that player is Mitch Marner... or that player is Milan Lucic... you're telling me it doesn' matter (horsepoop).

whether Wilson "helped" Buchnevich down to the ice or didn't - he hit him twice with a gloved hand(I won't call it punching because there is a cross section of people, some of whom fit into the lower IQ percentile by default who would argue that this not a punch becaue he has a glove on)... so all he did was hit a completely prone player from behind TWICE in the head. But that's all

the thing with Panarin is ridiculous... he "helps" Panarin remove s his helmt - and then clearly he(Wilson) is just trying to help Artemi to fix his hair by "guiding him gentlely down towards the ice"

I get it.. nothing but good olde time hockey here

bottom line - league look likes clowns who can't or won't manage their own players.

Parros suspending Buchnevich would be fine - if it was an isolated incident - ie.. if the Wilson thing hadn't just happened.... now Parros just looks like a donkey.

How can anyone justify - in any way Edler getting 2-3 games for the knee on knee with Hyman, and Wilson getting nadda. Hyman got a 1 game suspension a couple of years ago for a "sligtly - and I mean slightly" late hit on golden boy McAvoy - obviously not a pre-meditated hit to the head.

League is stupid - setting themselves up for yet another Matt Cooke, where he's going to run around until someone gets really injured. End the stupidity by actually punishing the player and team.
