So looking at the standings:

PIT - 73 points - 2 games left (BUF/BUF)
WSH - 71 points - 4 games left (@NYR, PHI, PHI, BOS)
BOS - 69 points - 4 games left (NYR, NYR, NYI, @WSH)
NYI - 68 points - 3 games left (NJD, NJD, @BOS)

So the Penguins have the easiest schedule out of the 4 teams, so they could easily get to 77 points.

Could Washington get 6 points out of a possible 8 in their last 4? Sure. None of their 4 games will be easy, getting 2 against the Flyers could help them.

Boston and Islanders are interesting because they play each other. That could be the deciding game. Boston would have to win all 4 games if we won both against Buffalo.

All in all, still way to close together in the standings to judge anything yet. Our best case is #1 Penguins vs #4 Islanders & #2 Washington vs #3 Boston.

On a side note, I really wish Marino and Petts engaged more offensively. Both have the chops to score more, more so Marino, but both are capable of more.

That’s less than two months away.

I thought the top 6 looked improved last night and the bottom 6 left a lot to be desired. Overall though, the team is not looking like a well greased and fined tuned machine at the moment. I believe some of the blame has to be on the shake up of the bottom 4 D. They were all playing pretty solid and comfortable with their steady unfaltering same D partners for quite a stretch of health, especially for the Pens....now they're not.
