Pay closer attention to the beginning of the scrum.
He knowingly bulldogs a defenseless Buchnevich's head into the ice, and then gives him a rabbit punch to the back of the head knowing that the shaft of his stick is underneath to do a little more damage.
Then pulls on the hair of a guy who is about 70lbs lighter than him to generate more force to slam his head into the ice.
It's so obvious that you have to be consciously trying not to see it. - Tonybere
People seem outraged, so clearly there’s something I’m not seeing. Believe me, I don’t want to be defending Wilson. He’s garbage.
But the gloved punch to the back of Buch’s head (shoulder?) seemed harmless to me. And sure, he ragdolled Panarin, but is that any worse than the unpenalized cross-checks to the back that guys like David Savard and Zdeno Chara have built a career on?

Before all of that happened, he took a guys face and went Triple H and pedigreed him into the ground

Who remembers Todd Bertuzzi? Yes, he ended a career, yet was welcomed back to the league. Tom Wilson will get a slap on the wrist, we all know that. - powerenforcer
Tom Wilson sucker punched Buch while a second opposing player was on his back. Could have been a similar situation as Bertuzzi if Buch was injured. Do we need to wait for injuries to happen to dish out suspensions or is intent enough?
Bertuzzi got a rest of season suspension for his incident, that totaled 13 regular season games and 7 playoff games. 10 regular season games (3 remaining this year and 7 next) and the entire playoffs is what I would dish out. |

I think the real question is how many games is Kadri going to be suspended for all of this? |

That point is, he got lucky he didn’t break Buch’s neck or crack Panarins skull. You’re looking at it saying “no one got hurt too bad, how bad can it be?” This is about protecting the next guy who might not get so lucky. It’s only a matter of time. |

people our outraged because there were two instances in that scrum where he coulda have taken someones life. This is not an exaggeration. Look where his stick is when he punched Buch. Buch is not moving because its across his throat. Then he grabs Bread and smashes his helmet less head to the ice.

I'm all for fighting in the league. everybody loves a good scrap.
Not okay with pulling a guy's hair with your gloves on and slamming his head into the ice.
Absolute joke. That wasn't a fight. That was a guy off the rails trying to hurt people. |

I, as a huge Rangers fan, do not believe he should be suspended for life, and would be shocked if he was. He should be banned from the playoffs and if needed, carry over unused time into the start of next season. I am all for fighting and rough stuff in the NHL, however what does it prove when you punch the back of someone's head while they are defenseless on the ice? Then you start punching everything you can. All Strome and Panarin did was grab him to stop his antics. Neither one was throwing punches at him, but he still managed to get Panarin's helmet off and slam him to the ice. There is a code and there is a line you just don't cross. He definitely has anger issues, and one day this may result is someone being seriously injured. All you need is the right angle or Panarin to be leaning a certain way and Wilson's weight falling on top of him as he goes down could have been a major injury. I wish the Rangers had an enforcer to handle it the right way, but this team right now lacks true toughness. There is no need for unnecessary bullying. If you want to fight, fight like a man and stop showboating in the penalty box. |

Wilson should be banned for life if only for pulling hair and 'fighting' like a girl.

What happens next time Wilson does this and a smaller player, who can't match up physically to him decides to simply slash him w/ their stick across his face/head!?
That will be a real good look for the NHL - rrentz

What exactly are the Flyers heading towards? It certainly isn't greatness. - JRR1285
And that's what I'd like to know. From the team they were last year (pretty good) to the poop show they put on this year, I don't get it.

Just because Wilson makes $5.1m doesn’t mean he’s smart. Whatever the fine turns out to be it won’t be life without parole.
The battles should always be face to face, not when a player is down or has back to you.
Take his number and catch up to him later. Wasn’t kick him while he’s down meant for the streets? |

The flyers are trending towards a very nice draft pick!
That's about it. Flyers are the new can't get right team.. and I am a flyers fan!
They have too much talent to justify the poop show that they put on the ice this season |

This is the dumbest (frank)ing take. Was Wilson also a bull while he was pushing Buch's head into the ice and then sucker punching him? |

And those Flyers laid a 7-2 shellacking on your Penwhines last night and have owned them the past few seasons. Get used to it cause the Penwhines window is about to close and they will probably be up for sale in a few years when they suck again. Although I'm sure the league will find a way to bail them out again and give them a couple of #1 overall picks with some bogus ping pong balls. Thanks! Eh what? - Phillywhiteout
If you asked Penguins fans about the next few years... not a single one is concerned about the Flyers. They are concerned with the rise of the Rangers and continued play of the Islanders. No one is concerned about the Flyers lol.
But sure, you won a meaningless game in the regular season. Those have been your Stanley Cup games since 2012. |

This guy is nothing but a coward and a bully and doesn't deserve to play in the NHL. He has no respect for his fellow players and deliberately tries to hurt them. I'm doing martial arts for 55 years and NEVER started a fight, but I would LOVE to start one with this guy. I would teach him a lesson he'd NEVER FORGET! That's how you handle bullies like him |

I'm not against fighting - I still think it has a place in the game. So does respect. THAT was not fighting. When you don't square off, drop your gloves but instead attack a downed player from behind - then pull another down on his face by his HAIR? That is not a fight. That is assault.
Then he shows his class in the box after. Total douche that needs to be made an example of.

And that's exactly what the league just gave him. No suspension. I hope he gets his due.

This is a misconception on your part, Wilson’s glove and stick are actually underneath his chin, not over the back of his neck. |
