They need to play the games to get paid.

pffttt.

NHL players don't care about money. They would never suck every penny out of the big cooperation they play for, that sounds silly.

Spezza can wire them some money.

PA wouldn't allow that to happen if the league were the ones to cancel the games.

The league doesn't lose any money having the North start playoffs a bit later...its barely an inconvenience to them.

It is annoying for us fans but Canadian fans will watch their teams no matter what.

It's not just the players. There are contractual obligations for TV rights, revenues, advertising revenues, sponsors, radio broadcasts, their advertisers, and so on and so on. There are a significant number of corporate interests that need to be met - and they've already been adjusted because of the pandemic.

From the players side, there are a number of other elements - performance bonuses based on games played, goals and assists for one - that become an issue if they don't play out the season.

I think there's also service time considerations.

It's broader than simply salary, which they might be able to agree upon.

I understand all that. I really do. I don't think they lose or really gain anything from playing the games. Very few players have bonuses. Only 35+ and ELC contracts can have them.

Anyone find it ironic though that the government said we can't have sports teams flying in and out of the country ended up having the largest covid outbreak in the NHL this year?

I'm skeptical that Sportsnet and/or TSN would be too chuffed at losing the final three games of Canucks vs. Calgary. I would imagine the ratings would be ridiculously low.

Better to just get eyeballs on playoff games.

This will be interesting to watch.

It doesn't matter.

We need that extra time so Gallagher can come back healthy.

Case closed.

I’ve got about 4 hours of work outside at my place.

Move hot tub. Dig 8 post holes and set 8 posts. Next weekend will be framing the deck.

- bryant

The framing will be a pleasure after the post holes and moving the hot tub.

What is the surface area of the deck? I've got serious knowledge gained from doing everything wrong... PM me if interested

Canucks play the Oilers 4 times this week.

Anyone think the Canucks can take one?

Yeah, me neither.

I think the Oilers are going to try to get McDavid to 100.

- Atomic Wedgie

would seem like a certainty... if I'm in Oilers management I would use McDavid far less per game... let him start the games "normally" and then slow down his ice time... he'll still get his 100 ... all the powerplay time ... I wouldn't take the risk of him getting injured.

Built a deck similar size 3 years ago, but built an addition where the deck was. I ripped up all the boards and saved them, but now I need to rebuild another one. Some of the boards are a bit crappy but I’m going to do a herringbone design so I can use up all the pieces and that way I won’t have many boards to replace.

We’ll see how it goes.

Meh.

I mean I get the rivalry between teams but the players have seemed to have more hate for eachother with the Jets.

Fan rivalries have died down for me over the years.

- Santo_44

just wait until a Leafs-Habs series is underway.... the douchbaggery coming from the Habs will ramp up... that's why this week's games are so intriguing....

if the Habs make a desperate attempt to jump past the Jets... it will be because they like their chances better against the Oilers than the Leafs.

We have an old back deck that's a foot and a half off the ground that we were going to replace but we said (frank) it and we're going to tear the whole thing out and put in a paver patio

nhl pros should be able to sk8te and compete every night👍🏿

ESPECIALLY with the levels of recovery methods and pt available these days👍

ESPECIALLY with the amount of capital that they’re making to whack a small object around skillfully🤦🏿‍♂️

think of it like barnum and bailey’s circus back in the day 🤣

I hate squeeky decks ... so I went completely 45degree diagonal with the top boards, using the longest single pieces I could get - and chose to use 2x pressure treated lumber rather than deck boards.... cost me more (quite a bit) in raw lumber, but end result is a deck that survives winter weather beating, carries weight of hot tub easily and doesn't "squeek" at all. All screws... not a nail to be seen... which helped in keeping the boards from warping or twisting. Only real difficulty was in transporting fairly fresh (read wet, heavy) 16' and 20' long 2x10s when I had my wrecked ankle.

Gallagher has a bruised ego.. As for Weber, he dropped his walker and is still waiting for a teammate to help him pick it up.

Be prepared for sticker shock on lumber.

Everyone is making a backyard oasis or other COVID-related house project.

Gallagher has a broken thumb.

Weber has an upper injury, probably was playing injured for months judging by the sudden drop in the quality of his play during the season.

Price has a concussion, should come back this week.

Tatar is day-to-day with... I have no idea what.

with the price of lumber now... the paver approach may be doubly beneficial
