Eight years after his draft the Morin era is over. Time to move on.

Yeah......well.....I think it's time to blow the whole thing up.

Does anyone know if you HAVE to protect the set # of players in the expansion draft?

Because I'm struggling to pick that # of players we should protect.

Probably not, but no matter how many are available you are still only losing 1.

Seattle Expansion draft.

Forwards: Giroux, Couturier, Hayes, Konency, Laughton, Lindblom, Patrick.

Defense: Provorov, Sanheim, Myers

Goalie: Hart

Expansion Exempt: Farabee, Frost, Allison

Re-sign: Samuel Morin

Fired: Michael Therrian and Mike Yeo

Walk: Elliott, Lyon,

It’s looking more and more like Seattle can only really get away with a player that makes major money in Jake Voracek, James van Riemsdyk and Shayne Gostisbehere.

Travis Sanheim is up for a raise this summer. It only makes sense to sign Samuel Morin to have room to bring back Sanheim comfortably. Not to mention if the Flyers are serious about making a splash.

I’d really like Justin Braun to just leave.

- SuperSchennBros

I like it.
I'd leave Patrick, Sanheim and Meyers available, if you can. JVR is having a good year, but his game is pretty limited. Still, I'd probably choose to protect him. At least he's scoring goals.

Just curious... how common is it to see assistants fired but the coach that brought them in survives?

Speaking of survives... Lappy's somehow still behind the bench after all these years. Surprised nobody's asking for his removal, too.

Won't happen, for dozens of reasons...

What you're more likely to get is another Kevin Hayes type signing or a Chuck Fletcher "blockbuster" where he sends a gaggle of assets for a non-difference maker.

I am guessing that although they both need to be canned, Fletcher's answer of no to ANY coaching changes rules that out.

Guessing it's all or nothing. Either the entire staff survives, or they're all gone. Probably a lot will depend on exit interviews and what the players have to say about the coaches and vice versa.

Just another feather in fletchers cap when he fires the coaching staff after adamantly saying he wouldn’t at the deadline.

I don’t see a clean out of the coaching staff or gm. I see massive excuses being put out due to the external forces at play. They can ride that for a year.

The Flyers have 5D already under contract for next year. Sanheim obviously gets extended. Everyone expects them to sign a veteran D and they are going to give York every opportunity to make the team. That’s 8D without even considering someone like Zamula moving up. Now you tell me where Morin, bad knees and all, fits in? Eight years after his draft the Morin era is over. Time to move on.
- Djapana

You basically just guaranteed York a spot, which is ridiculous.

I agree with most of what you say, but I don't understand why people are so in love with Morin. I know it's a nice story with him overcoming injuries, but with the young guys coming up and at least one(if not two) veteran defenders being signed there is no place for him. I just haven't seen enough from him. People get hung up on his size, but to me he isn't all that physical.

It's beating a dead horse at this point. I've asked for his removal for the last 3 off seasons, so I give up. I noticed last night(yes I watched some) when Sanheim was sitting on the bench Yeo went over to show him something on the tablet and Sanheim looked like he wanted to get up and punch him in the face. Wonder if there is a disconnect between Yeo and the defense? I dunno......I'd like to see all the assts. removed at this point.

With Morin and Patrick busts, I guess it’s time to see what Rubstov can do. Odds have to be huge that he’s not going to be a bust too.

So? A lot can change with the D. Aside from Provorov no one has a large enough contract considered to be hard to move. Ghost is the #1 candidate to be taken by Seattle. Hagg and Braun make less than 2 mill. Sanheim is a RFA and Myers makes just over 2 mill.

York and Zamula will for sure get a chance to earn a spot but they are not by any means locks. You cant base your roster on the fact that a young promising prospect might make the team. We have already been burned several times by young roster players we expected to break out. There is no harm in signing Morin under 1 mill and having him as a depth D, worst case.

Fletcher has already been on record saying the D is a bad mix of players. There is plenty of options for our defense.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

It’s exactly what you said. This defense can easily be reshaped. The Flyers shouldn’t really be married to anyone not named Provorov.

If the Flyers are truly interested in taking a run at Seth Jones for example, you might have to send Sanheim the other way who is a RFA. Signing Morin to a league minimum type of deal only makes more space and fills a spot so you can fit a guy like Seth Jones. Why would we even want to keep Justin Braun?

Is there really a belief that the Flyers are going to give Cam York every opportunity to play on this defense next season? Really? This fan base is ready to rush him up to ruin the young kid? Wow!

Theoretically, he has those qualities.

But in practice... his stick defending isn't that good. His blueline defense is non-existent. I have yet to see him establish himself in front of the net. He's chronically behind the play. He's a completely non-entity on breakouts and in the OZ. And when he is hell bent on being physical, he's running out of position and/or taking penalties.

You like players that don’t belong in the NHL. This kid can’t be trusted for a regular shift, he gets in every other rotation at best.

If I'm not mistaken I think the Pens fired all their assts. after last season, but they kept their coach, so it does happen.
