this team makes me sad - DoubleDown
This team is exactly what I thought it was before the season so it doesn't make me sad. They'll make the playoffs and then we'll see what happens but at this stage it looks like the Leafs will cake walk them which may be good as it may force Molson to clear the decks |

I expected more from them.
Not necessarely in terms of overall results, finishign 4th would be fine.
But I expected them to be much harder to play against than what they are currently showing.
It's hard to see them "turning it on" in the playoffs and play completely differently. |

i'd say that's 50-50 but either way doesn't change who they are.
my opinion on this team coming was that they were more or less mediocre. they'd look good at times, but they wouldn't be good enough to sustain quality for too long. but that was clearly an overestimation. i do think Ducharme has a hand in that as well. they have gotten progressively worse under him.

the biggest thing i notice is how disorganized they are. when you watch them in systemic situations (breakouts, zone entry, special teams, etc.), they're always doing something different, and guys always end up standing still with the puck or skating sideways or backwards. they just look like they're winging it.

Yup. It's too bad for Ducharme but the results probably don't look good enough for him to keep the job.

maybe it was a no-win situation. i don't mind the move though. i think this team had stagnated under Julien anyway and i'm glad they tried something, even if it hasn't worked out. |

I don't think he comes back.
I think he's done well the last 3 years, but the results have yet to show.
And please, please, someone fire Timmins already.

so the one thing i was thinking... say this team does make the playoffs, even if they make a quick exit, that's a short offseason. i wonder if that makes Molson more likely to keep everything in place and give them another year.

It could.... but GM's aren't usually signed for one year.
So either you believe he's doing good enough to continue with him for at least 3 years.
Or you go in another direction.
Anything short of a great showing in the playoffs will not save him.
And by great showing, I'm saying at the very least give the Leafs a run for their money in the first round.

Maybe Staal is saving himself for the playoff, wow is he useless. If they ever sit Evans for him again i'll be mad |

He's making me miss Dwight King.
I really wish I knew which pro-scout on the team thought he was a solution. |

I've seen nothing that points out to Ducharme being capable of doing that job with good sucess
Bring me Roy ( dont care if you dont agree. I'm convinced he would do great) or Bouchard |

If anything, we'd be entertained.

600 % this. with all the good trade MB did, imagine if we just had an half decent draft average since 2003 !?!
There mistakes every year and bla bla bla, its hard, its a gamble, lots of unknown...but his average is way too low and his mistakes way to many |
