I love the Jones isn’t perfect argument. He’s damn good and our defense is a (frank)ing clown show. I’d be ecstatic if we got a D man half as talented as him. - hereticpride
People need to realize what they're asking for is all.
Trade Provy for Jones? The gap between them really isn't as large as some think it is. You're not getting an across the board upgrade. There are some things that Provy does better than Jones. Then you have to consider the eventual difference in cap hit between the two. Jones could get $9-10M with a NMC. Prov's locked in under $7M. Not to mention the trade cost of acquiring Jones in the first place, which will be high. So is the team really that much better off with that kind of trade? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Then how about sign Dougie Hamilton free and clear in UFA? Well, Ghost haters... hate to break it to you but Dougie is a big, slow elite/consistent version of Ghost. He is sublime in almost every offensive respect, but he gets beat to the outside, he turns the puck over with frequency, and he's not the most stout guy in front of his own net despite his size. Would he upgrade the defense? Of course. But he doesn't solve all our problems either. Plus the (frank)er likes museums. |

You are still short a top pair Dman. By all means if Jones is brought in to play WITH Provorov then its a whole different story but be prepared to lose Frost. I can guarantee he will need to be part of any package for him |

that looks better to me, and zamula could pass ghost pretty quick. There is a reason he got called up.
if he plays with provy, what are you giving up to get him. I could be on board with that too. But gotta give to get unless you can get a ufa |

you made the implication when you said he might not sign here. you are trying to put up roadblocks to not even try
or you couldve said, ya lets trade for him and sign an extension |

He might not. If so, then it's moot, b/c Flyers aren't trading Provorov for a 1-year rental. Sorry if I'm being a wet blanket, but at some point fantasy has to meet reality.

So its not realistic they trade and sign him, ok. Thats your opinion.
Im moving on, i cant understand your logic where every could be a "he might not" situation. Lots of thing are possible. Remember Gretz got traded? The greatest of all time. How many people do you think that woulda been "fantasy over reality" |

For this dude
All the 'might nots' go against us when we get someone else.
All the 'mights' go for us when we talk about our young players/prospects.
Best to keep that in mind. |

Its just so easy to say, that wont happen, thats fantasy, cant do this, we cant trade that guy. Instead of thinking what we can do to improve. Theres a lot to work with, should be no untouchables. Our record doesnt warrant any untouchables. And i like all the players individually. but its not working. Said it before but would love to see a koneckny for reihnhart trade too. Mix it up. Similar skill, different mix |

Hell, he negotiated parts of the trade himself lol.

Oilers owner gave him a chance to nix the trade before they announced it. He said no. He wanted to go to LA. |

Large percentage of the Flyers fan base would hate him though.
Players like that with so much puck time are going to have turnovers that stick out. And one turnover that results in a goal will overshadow 15 successful breakouts / Zone entries in the recency bias evaluation.

When did I say trade Provy for Jones. That doesn’t do anything for us. I’d be moving Coots for him with an extension in place. |

For sure. He's not gonna fill that Chris Pronger-sized hole in our hearts. But he's what this team needs.
Honestly, we already have a pretty good solution in Ghost, but there's no appetite for his risk-taking by AV and the fanbase. I wonder if Hamilton would get more leeway. I have my doubts. |

Think you landed in the middle of the convo. Somebody had suggested that. We were responding to that. |

Eichel is a very good player, but he isn't that much better than Coots offensively no matter how much you slice it. Some context....
Since Eichel Entered the league in 2015-2016:
Eichel 375 gp, 139 g, 216 a, 355 p -69
Coots 398 gp, 125 g, 194 a, 319 p +68
And Coots demonstrably makes those who play with him better.
This is by no means a slight towards Eichel, but I think we underestimate how good Coots is. IMO he is a better all around player than Eichel. - MBFlyerfan
Skinner on eichels wing.. 40 goals. Not on his wing 5 goals
Bumbalo with eichel in lineup... #1 pp
Without eichel in lineup... 23rd
Does coots move any needle like this? Didn’t think so |

I agree with the sentiment overall, but I do think ghost has taken a step back. But yeah, at 8 per long term to sign Hamilton Hed get skewered
