I think we laid sod 3 times over about 15 years.

First year looks great, and then it went downhill from there.

And I got tired of going to war with the raccoons rolling up the sod every night.

About 70% through doing the same to mine. The lack of maintenance is beautiful... But the amount of money saved on utilities being able to shut down half of the sprinkler zones is the cherry on the cake.

Gotta get shade hardy grass seed and nematodes for the grubs. (i had success with this on a 100% shade patch last year)

Alternatively, clover is a great alternative. (this sounds dumb but I'm not changing it)
