Losing the season series 3-6 to the Habs the most glaring reason for our record

Wayne did it. He had an office.

Surprising you didn't know that as an Oilers fan. There's a reason he went to Russia and was so famous there, he changed the way the game was played in many ways.

At hockey schools they actually taught people how to go into a corner like Gretzky did and avoid taking a big hit.

- golfingsince

You’re both right, Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky both changed the way the game is played, 15 years apart. Orr came in, in 66/67, Gretzky in 79/80. Orr made it ok for defencemen to get in on the offence, Gretzky modelled his game after Bobby Clarke setting up behind the net, but obviously did it on another level.

Mario Lemieux is still the greatest, most talented, player - ever

It's so hard to pick one of Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux. They all have reasons to be considered the best ever.

Orr made the Bruins who they were.
He made all players around him better.
Gretzky & Lemieux had far better supporting casts.
Each player were great in their own ways but none other than Orr could do it all.

Not sure if Myers was on a change or just coming on, but mete rushed down his side, juolevi tried to cover but mete had a few steps. Was a goal that demko would definitely want back
- Codes1087

I think there are 5 goals Demko would want back, pretty bloody ordinary performance by the next greatest goalie in Canucks land😑

What I'm saying is it took them less time to rebuid than us to re-tool. I guess it's because they fly less.
- golfingsince

8 1st round picks in 4 years is a big help, that's how you re-build.

Imagine Orr the last D to win the scoring race if the offside pass didn’t exist?

1970/71
37g 102a 139pts 124+/- 3shg 10sh pts

Set a record for D points in ‘68/69 64pts
Followed that up with 6 consecutive 100pt seasons.

In 1981-82 Wayne Gretzky had 212 points. The 9th leading scorer in the league had half of that. None of the other top 10 were on his team.

Go through some of the seasons of Lemieux and Gretzky and you'll see they outscored any other scorer in the game by at least 33%. What do you think these other players learn by playing with guys like that?

Phil Esposito was as good as any player that Gretzky or Lemieux played with, true story.

Fairview Cab Franc tonight. It’s only an ‘18 but it’s already much better than when I tried at the winery last October.

That’s good to hear. They’re one of my favourites for Reds, but it was a pretty disappointing tasting last summer.

Not everyone got to play with Gretzky & Lemieux but they did with Orr. Again Orr did it all they did not. Gretzky needed cementhead. Lemieux whined. Orr dealt with it & dished it in a much rougher era.

Orr made Espo into a superstar
Lemieux didn’t make Francis or Coffey et al
Gretzky didn’t make Messier but yes to Kurri

Gretzky made BJ McDonald.
He left & he sucked.

Sedins made Carter same thing.

Still a bit more pyrazine character than I like. But it’s coming around. Think Bill is in the mood to sell if you’re thinking of buying some land...

You do realize Esposito was a top 10 scorer before Orr entered the league right? I'm sure you also know Esposito lead Canada in scoring at the Summit series when Orr didn't play, or that Esposito finished 2nd in league scoring when Orr didn't crack the top 10 his 2nd year?

Gretzky did help make Messier, because Messier got to play 2C while Gretzky scored 200 points.

I mean c'mon, nobody is disputing that Orr was a great player but you're slagging two of the best ever. Lemieux's PPG average is insane. The guy did it through cancer and back injuries.

Gretzky had 3 200 point seasons.....nobody else has even 1. One guy came really close, Lemieux.

Next level desperation pulling your goalie with 8 minutes left against a last place team while being 12 points out of a playoff spot.

Not much dignity left.

It’s a bell peppery flavour. Common in cooler growing regions that haven’t been leaf thinned. If the wine is aged the flavour integrates, but it can be over powering in young wines.

You realized the Bruins sucked before Orr joined them. I worked the Summit series in Van.

Not slagging neither Gretzky or Lemieux. I DID say neither was as complete as Orr.

Orr outta the gate was good & D is much harder to play. Nobody can deny Orr changed hockey 1st.

Think on a 124+/- in a season.
Now that is an absurd size stat.
Career 582+/- in 12 seasons.

Gretzky 520+/- in 20 seasons
Lemieux 114+/- in 17 seasons

If not for cartilage removed in the hacksaw days of medicine Orr would have even better numbers.

I take nothing away from other players just imo nobody was or will be like Orr ever. Nobody need protect Orr or fight for him etc.

Good news.

Joey Kenward
@kenwardskorner
#Canucks prospect Jonah Gadjovich had 2 goals, incl. OT winner in
@UticaComets
2-1 victory tonight vs Syracuse.

Through 18GP, Gadjovich is now up to 14 goals this season, tied for 4th-most in

Guess what, the Oilers sucked before Gretzky joined them and the Pens sucked before Lemieux joined them.

All of those players made everyone around them better, not just Orr.

That's why they're largely considered the 3 best players of all time.... with some consideration to Mr. Hockey and maybe a couple of guys like Boom Boom and Rocket.

Orr was good out of the gate, Gretzky was GREAT! He tied for the league lead in scoring his first season. After that, he simply began setting records.

He scored 47 points in 18 playoff games one season. Averaged nearly 2 points per game for his entire career.

Of course Orr changed the game 1st, he played 1st. You said Gretzky and Lemieux didn't lift the players around them like Orr did, but that's simply not true.

"He was, I think, the first Canadian forward to play a true team game", said hockey writer and former NHL goaltender Ken Dryden. The focus of the game prior to Gretzky's arrival, he said, especially among the Canadian teams, was on the player with the puck—in getting the puck to a star player who would make the big play. "Gretzky reversed that. He knew he wasn't big enough, strong enough, or even fast enough to do what he wanted to do if others focused on him. Like a magician, he had to direct attention elsewhere, to his four teammates on the ice with him, to create the momentary distraction in order to move unnoticed into the open ice where size and strength didn't matter. . . . Gretzky made his opponents compete with five players, not one, and he made his teammates full partners to the game. He made them skate to his level and pass and finish up to his level or they would be embarrassed."[82]
