So he replaces Kampf at 4C?
Hoping he's healthy and ready to go but wondering what that will all look like after a year away from hockey.
If he can come back at the level he left would obviously be huge for the Hawks. - HawkintheD
This should be a concern, always more challenging the older you are. |

Well if he scores 2 goals a year, he is 100% better than Kampf. - LAHawk
Kind of hard to argue with you about that. |

Nope definitely not. But playing well again. - GPHawksfan
But he too will decline even more in the next couple of years. Long playoff runs take a toll on these guys that play mega minutes, see Keith/Seabrook, that’s the price you pay. |

I'm glad this was said. On the subject of coaches, John Hynes didn't do a thing in NJ, but has NSH playing very well.
Q couldn't get the depleted Hawks into the PO's, and barely got FLA in last year (this year, they are lights out).
Can we all please agree that you need both good coaching, AND a good roster to be competitive? Can we also agree that the current state of the Hawks roster is not competitive?
Also... please stop calling him Soros, it is Saros. I keep picturing a really old rich guy between the pipes. - Chunk

All he has to be is better than Jammer at this point. I don't think that's a stretch. |

Whenever Keith coughs up the puck now, I remember toothless Keith grinning with the Cup or him following up on his shot to score that first goal against TB in Game 6 to realize what he gave to the Hawks. Puts everything in perspective. He's playing with fire still but the body just isn't responding like it used to. |

Yeah when fans are upset about Seabrook's contract, it's almost as if for him it would of been better off not going deep in the playoffs and winning 3 cups, because he might have not declined as fast. (And yes he would of gotten the same contract 3 cups or not, look at Pieterangelo, one cup 30 years old, 7 years $61.6 mil.)

I just like that Kyle Turris is being paid $2M not to play for the Preds for another 7 years. - HawkintheD
Shea Weber's contract runs till he is 40, until 25/26. If he reitres before, the Preds are hit with a cap recapture also.

Not sure that it is fair to call it a decline. We all learned he was playing with injuries that required surgery to fix. He just kept putting it off longer and longer.
His skill set did not diminish his body fell apart. Instead of getting surgery to fix the issues he continued to play in order to help the Hawks compete.

Its definitely a decline, whether the decline was brought on by age or by injury is irrelevant, it was still a decline. No one is arguing that he was not a warrior and a leader. |

I know hockey names are largely unoriginal and boring. Add a "y" or "er" and there's your nickname but it really isn't that big of a stretch to get to Pastromi. |

Seabrook was a stud and we did not have a replacement for what he brought to the team when Stan signed him. The only issue was the term on his contract, he earned the salary part of that contract. |

It is always easy for internet GM'S to say you gotta cut the cord with guys like Seabs. Yet just about every real life GM pays their guy. Josi is a great player now, but his deal will be crap at the end, too. |

Shaw like Seabs the end reuslts of these contracts and or trades are not shocking IE LTIR and getting next to nothing from them. that was pretty bad cap and asset mamgement. right now we sit at #12 in the draft. looks like we can fall anywere from 9-14 depending on how we finish up. 9 would be alot better then 14. I have heard there is a tier around 9-10 depending on if anyone grabs a goalie. we have depth now we need high end talent.
sure feels like we should have taken the best offer for strome and ZAD at the deadline.
I cant imagine we woudl ever get the same offer this off season. maybe after the EXP draft but before the draft we could get some value for teams that dont want to sign UFA's but lost somebody in the EXP draft they want to replace. - kmw4631
How do you know there were any offers for Strome and Zadorov? |
