My lines if I was in charge

Barzal wahlstrom bellows
Nelson Eberle beauvillier
Pageau Palmieri MDC
Regular fourth line

- Hockeyislife

Think u have to leave the Brock, Beau, Bailey line together.. they have been good.

Leave Palmieri and JGP together and put Wahlstrom with those 2..

My guess is we see Leo again with Barzal b/c our only goal against last game was that line.. and Trots thinks Leo would have prevented it.

What a joke the NHL really is.. I mean the guy has literally been spitting blood at least 10 times where there was no call on a high stick, cross check or some other obvious call in the past 2 seasons. He gets mugged every game and never gets calls... now they fine him for embellishing an obvious hook.

meanwhile Crosby had the most embarrassing dive I have ever seen against Boston and no one bothers to fine him.. absurd.

- niteislander

As long as that biased idiot, Colin Campbell, is still running Hockey Operations for the NHL, Barzal will not be getting the Crosby treatment from the refs.

Meh, not constantly on him. Just call it like it is. Love the kid and I totally respect his skating and talent, it’s second to none and when he plays well I’ll be the first to say it and love it. Problem is lately there’s really nothing to praise him about unfortunately. Others will blame it on others and make excuses. I’m just not gonna listen to that shat.
I agree He does get hooked and or fouled and if he thinks it’s a penalty without getting the call, he typically looks at the refs immediately and makes his displeasure known. He needs to keep moving his feet and draw the call. If he gets one great if not stfu and talk to the Refs on a break or just say nothing and let the coaches fight for you. It’s the same when a penalty is called against him. In every sport you can get a reputation you don’t want or respect from the Refs. The Refs are all egomaniacs and he’s not endearing himself to these asses. Unfortunately he doesn’t have the refs on his side and its hard to fight them. You are not gonna win. He needs to try a different course and change his reputation around.
100% agree, He is in a slump, as is the whole team. Imo Star players need to pick it up and help lead the team out of it. That’s not just on Barzal either.

Maybe we need to fire Barry?

- nyisles7

Definitely agree on the entire second paragraph.

As for the bold, I don't know, the Isles need Barzal producing, there's no doubt about that. It's not like when a role player or rookie is slumping and you just take them out of the lineup. I think when your only elite player is struggling, you try and put him in the best position to break out of it, no? To that point, I think who he's out there with matters. It's not about excusing Barzal...he hasn't been good, he's committed bad turnovers, and he absolutely bears responsibility for that. It's more about doing whatever you can to get him going again. Eberle slumping at the same time certainly hasn't helped that line, but when the LW options are so talented that they often rotate straight out of the lineup if they're not on the first line, they might not be the best the Isles have to offer either.

We agree on everything really. One thing I truly believe in is elite or super star players make players around them better. Barzal has had the same results with Bailey, Leo or Zajac on his line and again has the best players typically with him on the PP and hasn’t created/produced. He’s just in a funk no matter who he’s is on the ice with. The whole team is in a funk and I think the line shuffling has a lot to do with it. It will take one rush with a great pass or scoring a goal and he will jump out of it I’m sure.
I’m hoping they get it going tonight against the Rags and continue to gain confidence and some consistency in the lines and play moving towards the POs.

He's just gripping the stick too tight.

Things aren't working well so he's trying to force stuff that he really shouldn't be. Looking for passing opportunities that aren't there, etc.

He'll snap out of it eventually. Too good not to. But without somebody else there to take the pressure off it's tough.

Every, single, poster on here that has discussed or debated this with you has said ad nauseam that it DOES NOT HELP Barzal to get out of his funk playing with a borderline NHL player like Leo Komarov. NOBODY is blaming that as the sole reason and acknowledged he’s not playing well. The hyperbole is laughable. It doesn’t make you right just stop

This is 10000000% correct and having a player like Leo Komarov on his wing slims those chances down either further.

That’s yours and everyone’s opinions. Thank you, your response is appreciated.

Since the $3.99 is steep here is something I read in The Athletic today I found interesting and troubling at the same time.

“ Trotz has searched in vain for lines that can carry the play of late. You’d have to think that Michael Dal Colle and Leo Komarov, who both sat out Tuesday’s loss in Washington, will cycle back in — they are Nos. 1 and 2 in xGF percentage over the past 10 games. Neither is a scorer, obviously, but the Islanders need hustlers right now to, as Trotz likes to say, bring others into the fight.

That’s perhaps the most disappointing trait of the Isles since the trade three weeks ago: There doesn’t seem to be enough will. The hallmark of this three-game sweep by the Caps was watching a Washington team outwork the Isles, who are themselves built on outworking opponents. Whether it was outlet passes up the wall that were cut off to extend zone time or a failure to win a puck battle in the opposing end, the Islanders were out-willed. That’s reflected in these numbers, because they just haven’t had the puck enough in the previous 10 games.”

Staple is spot on about the team getting out worked. Leo and MDC 1 and 2 in GF on ice % 🤔

Come on man. You know as well as I do when Leo’s contract is done here he’s going to the KHL or retiring. That’s unless lameriello resigns him.

Well in that case why don’t we just throw them both on the first line? That should solve all of our problems. They’re obviously that good even staple knows. We beat this topic up enough but MDC and Komarov don’t score. Period. Them winning with one fancy stat hasn’t done Jack squat for this team let alone the first line so I say again just stop. Now I say it not only to you but to staple as well.

So a grinder type player at 35 Isn’t going to play in the NHL or retire?

Well to me staples point is obvious also besides MDC and Komarov being impactful. The team as a whole haven’t been pushing the play. More like they’re getting pushed away. They can’t complete a pass, zone entry is terrible, routinely give up on plays they weren’t before there’s never a second effort, to much hesitation with anything they do, etc. They’re getting outclassed all over the ice. Coincidentally or not it started to this level right after we acquired Zajac and Palmieri. Even trotz has said himself he can’t find a home for these guys. The trade so far seems to have had a negative impact. I still say that changes and they get their crap together before the playoffs but who knows.

The fine on Barzal is disgraceful. There's no doubt that he questions the refs far too much, but that is really born out of the constant targeting and ignored calls he goes through while being abused by opponents. In one night we saw him brutally crosschecked on three occassions by other players including Kuznetsov actually breaking his stick over his back with no call. Then he gets called for a high stick from a ref 100ft away when his stick was lifted by an opponent.
Barzy definitely complains and to some degree is breaking under the pressure, but I don't think by any means he's an embellisher. The fraternity that is NHL officiating runs straight through to league offices as apparent by this garbage
