Jets PK has been top 20 every year for at least the past 5 years. It's 11th right now but has been top 10 all season.

Thanks you for this BW, I knew I was not that far off! So essentially the PK has been in the bottom 10 for 4 out of the last 5 years.

Away too many shots get through from the opposing team's point-men IMO - and with traffic in front - goal!

I did a sort on NHL.com from top PK down but forgot to change the second date column so I ended up with some type of range summary over several years. My mistake.

You did miss. 2020-21 11th

Anyone hoping the Jets drop a few more so they might end up playing the Leafs instead of the Oilers?

last year was a weird one for the jets pk. they started the year at about 50% and obviously dead last until January (maybe until Demelo arrived?) and then were fantastic after that. The early results skewed heavily and that was with a whole new set of dmen following loss of Buff, trouba, myers, chiarot. If we are 11th now we have been pretty damn good on pk since January 2020.

We had those guys from 2015 - 2018 and in two of those years we finished bottom 10. It’s not a personnel issue.

This stat would be worse if all we did was play Edmonton. You have to remember we will have played Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver close to 40 times this season and none of those teams power plays scream elite to me.

Be careful what you wish for. I would rather the Leafs play the Oilers than the Jets. The Oilers are basically a two man team, shut them down and you win.

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have gone through 5 different coaches since entering the NHL. No coach has coached Crosby for more than 6 years. Crosby and Malkin have also won cups under different coaches. Ovechkin is on his 7th coach. And, all the coaches that coached these players won multiple division titles and Presidents Trophies. What has Maurice won with this team?

But here in Winnipeg, its unfortunate that guys like Scheifele, Connor, Ehlers, Morrissey, Hellebyuck, Copp, etc... have nothing else to compare their coaching experiences to than Uncle Paul. I can just sense the frustration that’s building under the surface. Realistically do Maurice lovers really want to see this man coach Heinola and Perfetti? Holy smokes!!!!

RE: Schiefele's contract

It was a fair contract when he signed it.

It is like if you sold your house in 2016 and got $350 K for it. You were presumably happy at the time with $350 K.
If your house is now worth $ 500K in 2021, that's life ! You sold in 2016, you have to live with that.

Of course he’s not happy with his contract. With benefits of hindsight he got robbed. I think that’s all normal enough. The question is whether he is whining about it and letting it become a distraction to his performance and his team. I don’t see that.

Just reading through this thread I think some of you are over reacting.

Yes, you are in a slump. It happens
Yes, when you're in it, the world seems dark.
Yes, you still have probably the deepest forwards in the Canadian division ( maybe my Leafs are deeper, maybe not)
Yes, you probably have the best goalie
Yes, your defense is below average.

Anything can and will happen over the last few games and the playoffs. Wouldn't surprise me if you got swept in the first round if McDavid is on fire.
Also wouldn't surprise me if you won the Canadian Division.
It would surprise me if you beat Tampa, or Carolina

Considering the slump started in January of 2019...

Outside of Manitoba Schiefele is the face of the Jets. I couldn't tell you who would be the face of the Flames, Canucks or Sens. If Schiefele played for Toronto, Montreal or Edmonton he would be down the list of significance in those media markets. In the US it may be different, but I find the media focuses on so many names only, and leaves it at that until an obvious headliner rises to the top.

I'm not overly concerned about the Jets right now as they have just played the two best teams in the North. They could have squeaked the 4-1 lost from Toronto, as Marner's goal was a fluke and Kerfoot's an empty netter. One or two bounces the other way and the Jets may have been fortunate enough to get a win.

Lowry, out, Ehlers out should allow for rest and rejuvenation for the playoffs where anything could happen. Finally some new blood may get to play. I wish Heinola would play every game, but figure it must be a contract year saving thing.

I miss the Jet teams who were fast, big and physical.

Toronto has gone all in and players around the league recognize this and were more willing to come on board, wherein the past that may not have been the case. I think the Division is their's regardless, though it is Toronto and history proves time and time again that if any team can screw up a sure thing, it's them. Note: The NHL and Toronto media will have to be placed on suicide watch.

The Jets against team McDavid are in tough. If Edmonton loses McDavid they are done. I'd rather the Jets play Toronto after Montreal plays a very physical series against the Leafs.

Not to mention that maybe that house gets hit by a meteor or some other casualty aka Little. Players sign long-term deals for some security against the black swan events ( is black swan also part of cancel culture ? ). Scheif has remained very healthy but one errant puck and he would not be complaining about that contract ...or a few cancelled Covid seasons.
