Got to love socialized medicine ay? - HolyDiver83
Has nothing to do with that.
All the drug manufacturing was privatized at one point in the 1980s and ended up in the hands of foreign owners.
We can blame the "free market" and commercialism (and multiple iterations of governments who did nothing) for lack of vaccine manufacturing in Canada.

Gotta love people painfully dying because they cannot afford basic medical care.

if they're going to keep the same format, put seattle in the canadian division and they can do what the blue jays are doing in baseball, play elsewhere. they can schedule the majority of the first half of the season at home, then the majority fo the second half on the road. do two tours through canada, 2-3 games in each city then come home for some games then go back on the road to do it again. |

It has nothing to do with Covid. Bell and Rogers (owners of the Leafs) want a Canadian division with a regular all team schedule. They want first two rounds of playoffs of Canadian teams for the ratings. Since they’ve been supporting a bunch of basket case US franchises, that seems fair.
Got to love socialized NHL, eh? |

When my wife was pregnant with our first child, she had preeclampsia.
My daughter was born 5 weeks early, and both mother and child almost died on the operating table. Delivery was done by the top two doctors and top three nurses in the department.
My daughter spent around 5 days in the NICU, then another couple in the hospital before coming home.
The only thing I paid for out of pocket was coffee and parking.
So yeah, I agree. |

You must be a flaming liberal to make such an idiotic statement like that...How stupid and ignorant are you? The 2 States with the most deaths are New York and California by far...61,216 and 52,022..where Governors forced nursing homes to take in Covid patients and killed the elderly by the thousands...Florida has 34,712 by comparison and Texas has 49,973, with an influx of thousands of cases crosiing the border since jan 20 of this year...and thousands of those positive cases are being distributed across the US to a City near you...
On the Hockey side, I like the Divisions and would add Seattle to the Canadian division or Detroit or Buffalo. Have a home/home against each team inthe league and then divisional play the remainder with the current series setup to increase the rivialries - hockeygm
Congrats to Idaho for keeping their deaths below NY and California |

Better to be safe than sorry. Look how many millions died in open states like Florida and Texas. Meanwhile locked down states like New York and California were so much safer. If Fauci says we need another fifty two weeks to flatten the curve don't question it. Just do as you're told. - jfkst1

The assumptions behind this proposal are absolutely crazy.
The US first jab rate hit 40% of total population today. The Canadian first jab rate today is 26.44 of total population. Canada will hit a first vaccine rate of 40% inside of 16 days.
More important, the US has a mortality of rate from Covid of more than 1700 deaths per 1m of population. The Covid mortality rate in Canada is 640 per 1m of population.
The US first vaccination rates have already hit a hesitancy wall at 40% and have begun to experience a significant slow down. UK hit the resistance point at around 45% and in several weeks has only added a few percentage points to its first jab rate. I hope not, but the US may have difficulty getting to 50%.
By focusing on first jabs Canada is trying to get to +70% by the end of June. Short term there is no difference in Covid protection for 1 or 2 jabs. It is important long term. Multiple countries have adopted the delayed strategy.
If a decision is made for the NHL to keep a Canadian division, it will not be because of jab rates. It will be because of infection and mortality rates. Or, as was suggested earlier because Canadian owners and advertisers and lots of fans want it that way. |

This is exactly my granddaughters story as well. She weighed in at 3 lbs 6 oz. NICU at the Ottawa Civic was a wonderful, magical place. It was like walking on sacred ground when we finally got to visit. Today, my granddaughter is the tallest girl in her class.
But, the cost of parking was really expensive.

When it comes the health care you will find that most Canadians are like minded. Not so much when it comes to hockey. |

I have no doubt that Canadian owners and advertisers would love another year of a full season of Canadian division play. I think a majority of Canadian fans would like to see this as well. There will be some fans who would not like it.
Maybe the Canadian Division could add a team for the year in order to balance out the schedule. Buffalo draws strongly from the Niagra region and would be a great fit.

Lots of Buffalo fans in Ontario and Quebec. In the days of the French connection and later on with Hasek, Buffalo was a top draw for games in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. Lindy Ruff was worth the price of admission and you could always account on Rob Ray to agitate everyone in the building. Great hockey town, great fan base, deserve better than the last few years. Good chance that a year in a Canadian Division might be fun for their fan base.

For once Eklund's sources are accurate,
Through discussions with various state and national leaders, the NHL has wisely determined the only way to avoid another season of inter-divisional play would require all players to be vaccinated. The PA is aware and has expressed no interest. Thus, the league is now focused on pod-based playoffs. They are also planning for the likelihood of another season limited to inter-division play.
The cause of this is the ongoing vaccine procurement issues in Canada. For those unaware, the Canadian government purchased 77 million vaccine doses, millions of N95 masks and thousands of Ventillators from the leader's friends. Unfortunately, these friends have squandered the cash on real estate ventures, leaving vaccine processing facilities unbuilt, while the nation is still absent N95 masks and ventilators. Outbreaks are rife and many Canadian hospitals are overwhelmed. With herd immunity not expected in Canada until mid-2022, it unlikely their federal leaders will reopen the borders or allow unimmunized players to enter Canada without a significant period of isolation. |
