Sounds like a week and a bit. Along the same line as Hyman. Not season ending as I thought it might be when he got his feet tangled.

- Leafsmart

To add. He's been a tremondous boost to the D core. Hope we resign him. Most likely lose Derms or Holl to the Krak bunch

While I think we're usually on the same page about sweets, I will go out on a limb and say that cookies are overrated.

I used to till I started baking. I can’t handle too much sweetness. Shortbread with dried cranberries is good.

Speaking of, I bought 6 donuts at the grocery store on a 100% impulse buy but they might be some of the greatest donuts I've ever had.

Cookies are fine but on the ranking of sweets it's below icecream, pie, donuts, Mediterranean pastries, mousse, custards, fudges, and many different kinds of cakes (not fruit cake though that poop is gross)

Shortbread ranks high in the cookie spectrum, and also particularly ladyfingers too

And how many people who work in companies that offer it call in sick on a Monday morning or work at 50% hung over or spend too much time shooting the poop.

There’s always an opportunity for abuse. You weigh it against the benefits

Devil's advocate and also my personal belief, people need an out from work every once in awhile. The idea that your personal life shouldn't impact your work life is outdated, because your work life impacts your personal life. The two are inextricable. People are hungover sometimes, people get burnt out or work with idiots that they can't handle every day (or god forbid creepsters or abusive colleagues), people have lingering physical or mental health issues that don't necessarily warrant a doctor's visit and note.

People will abuse, but if someone would rather spend an hour playing on their phone on the toilet while somebody is taking a massive crunch 2 feet away, or you're willing to risk your job for an extra day off, doesn't that reflect on you as an employer just as poorly as it does on the person who is mailing it in?

Like if you don't want people abusing mandatory sickdays, wouldn't it be incumbent on you to create work conditions where most people wouldn't? (understanding some people are just selfish and bad people). Right now, you could argue that many good people suffer because of a couple of bad apples, instead of a few people getting away with it while regular folks get real benefit from it.

Bogosian is slower and more of a pylon than Luke schenn. In fact, Luke schenn is a much better player in general.
No big fan of Holl (I mean, he's a great bottom pairing man, but shouldn't be on the PK), but I really prefer him over Bogosian

Agreed. I’m less interested in hunting down people in work settings than in making the comparison to people who might abuse a Covid sick day. You get this all the time in any social policy programming. A few freeloaders become the cost of addressing people in need.

I’m trying to remember the specifics but there was a big issue with Ontario Welfare programming where a number of docs simply decided that the general level was too low so they provided some kind of medical exemptions that brought higher benefit levels. Of course the government brought them to court and the publicity was as bad as you’d expect

I'd be somewhat shocked if he didn't. Hoping his presence is going to give the team a lift -- it's nuts that since the TDL the Leafs have been winless.

I'm surprisingly anxious to see Riley Nash in uniform as well (though won't be till playoffs).

All those dry grocery store cookies bring cookies down. Freshly baked real cookies is another matter.

I bought grocery store donuts too! Mine were meh, but I microwaved them and they were okay.

I'm falling off the food wagon lately. It's hard not to indulge during this plague. But I scored a used bike the other day while I wait for my new one, so I will crank these calories off.

Also, everybody should get paid time off whether they are sick or not, just because they don't feel like working that day. We expect people to be soulless automatons in this society.

Did you read where I said it may get worse short term or just skip that part entirely? Do you have access to what his medical advisors have told him because I haven't seen it published publically.

Doctor's are saying lots of things, the government takes it lead from the advisors in the government not doctors or teachers (or teachers unions) - this is fact. It may anger people and you may or may not agree with how it works but it's how it works.

Peel is making their own decisions, so is every other area in the province what's your point?

Let's not kid ourselves any doctor who is asked will say paid sick days are a good thing and they would have said that before COVID so them saying it now is not a new, earth shattering revelation. Hell I think pretty much anyone you ask doctor or not would say the same thing.

There are only 2 provinces in the country that have mandatory / legislated paid sick days now and they are 2 days per year in one and 1 day per year in the other. Opposition parties in Ontario are calling for 10 paid sick days per year - that's quite a jump from 2 or zero.

The feds could do something - but I'm pretty sure they won't.

The point I was making is that it's a complex issue with short and long term gains and potential negative impacts and not a provincial decision I think should be rushed into.

I'm not sure why you want to argue with me about it?

- Cush29

Ford's own Science team has gone on the record and said he is not following their advice.

David Williams on the other hand - hard to say if he's completely incompetent, or Ford is ignoring him too. 50/50.

And if you read any posts in the last thread - mandating sick days is under Provincial control, not Federal.

Tell me about the new bike

I have the one I built last fall that I just need to modify with a new brake hanger and shorter stem but otherwise it's good to go for this season

I’ll let it go this time but watch your step. I guess the biggest problem with a national paid sick leave initiative is that it’s not clear that it’s needed everywhere across the country. I haven’t really looked at numbers in the rest of the country but I don’t think you could justify a national initiative.

Watch my step? I'll flag a mother (frank)er for poop like that in a second dawg! Your apology for your poor behviour and lack of clarity disguised in a threat is accepted.

How is it not justified nationally but it is provincially, but even if that's the case who cares? Are we worried suddenly people in other provinces who don't need it are going to take sick time on the Fed's dime?

Even if so how does that differ from the CERB gong show and the huge #'s of people who got it despite not qualifying and will never have to pay it back.

Whichever government puts something in place can make it as stringent or as loose as it needs to be.

It's not a matter of justification, it's a matter of who holds governmental power.

The Federal government's program takes federal tax dollars and gives it directly to workers who had to take a day off due to COVID.

A provincial program (like the one that was instituted by the Wynne government) would have employers pay the workers for days they took off sick.

The federal government can't mandate private companies to do so.

The provincial government can.
