No, it’s brilliant

I accept Max’s point that some people are asymptomatic and will show up to work not knowing they’re infectious regardless of a paid sick leave program (you can’t do anything about people you can’t do anything about).

However, you still want to prevent sick people from showing up to work and infecting others (but if you can do something about people you can do something about you should do something).

I mean let a little poetry into your life

We've had this struggle at work. We have stringent protocols and have since day 1, we emphasize to our staff if they have any of the following symptoms don't bother showing up.

We had one person who visibly had a cold, go home.

We had another person who when questioned on why they looked like they weren't feeling well admitted they had had a sore throat for about a week, and couldnt afford to stay home just because of a sore throat but it had evolved that day.

Our whole staff still feel like they could be sent home any day for months and have argued they can't pass up on wages they have now not knowing what the future holds. I sympathize, I'm not a rich guy either, but the risk of getting my coworkers sick has put me at home 4 times in isolation in the last year voluntarily. Not everyone is willing/has the ability to take that step and see zeroes on their cheques and that's where it gets hard.

I'm not upset and yes of course we can have those discussion but when you open your reply with a "It can't get worse?" when I never said anything of the sorts it comes across as you looking to argue. If that wasn't your intention then fine but it sure reads like that.

I'm glad you are aware of who the premier is but did I say you were not aware of this?

Honestly your reply didn't make much sense to me and I interpreted it as confrontational and argumentative hence my inquiry as to why you wanted to argue. If that's not the case apologies.

I think a federal temporary solution is needed vs provincial. I assume you think a provincial one should be put in place vs federal.

I think the feds haven't done enough as a whole in relation to this pandemic and are leaving provinces with far too much to tackle to avoid being blamed for the failures. My opinion and I am fairly sure you feel differently and that's ok.

The one thing I would hope we can both agree on is neither level of government has done anywhere near enough, quickly enough on any of this.

The fact flights have and continue to come into Pearson daily in the volume and from the destinations they have, with terrible protocols at Pearson is just so WTF - I mean how much of the spread of this and the variants have been traced back to these flights?
I personally have no idea but I'd sure like to know - is that even tracked or is that something we don't track because we just don't want to let the public know?

Weak leadership at the federal level on this issue from the onset. Good (not great) leadership at the provincial level in Ontario initially but it's eroded and fallen to 'm'eh' levels for me since. And I only say 'M'eh' vs weak because I think the provincial government(s) have been asked to do much more on this then they every should have and continue to be asked to do so (i.e. paid sick time).

I do wonder if the NDP were in power in Ontario would they have already implemented 10 paid sick days per year? How about the Lie-berals?

I'll be interested to see how it plays out - sounds like something provincial is coming?

I’ll let it go this time but watch your step. I guess the biggest problem with a national paid sick leave initiative is that it’s not clear that it’s needed everywhere across the country. I haven’t really looked at numbers in the rest of the country but I don’t think you could justify a national initiative.

The fact that people don't have sick days and people who are working at work aren't prioritized for vaccines is (frank)ing criminal.

I have it say it bugs me that people who work from home aren’t more sympathetic towards those who are in those kinds of situations. I get that I’m retired but it’s not hard to imagine someone who maybe can’t afford to do the right thing

Best Mars bar I ever had. I went spur of the moment on no food too, I needed that poop. I prefer Snickers, but I guess they can't hand out peanuts like that.

The argument is not so much about the philosophy. It is about trusting that it won't just become a massive excuse to take a vacation at the expense of the entire economy.

I think most people who work from home appreciate how fortunate we are. I just don't know how to just start giving away money and free time without ie being abused... especially now!

It is coming though; announced today.

A friend of mine worked with someone who felt
sick, went and got a covid test, went to work for a day then received a positive test.

I also feel like there’s a lot of people who “can’t afford to not go in” meaning they can’t get the Pizza, put 20$ on the Leafs and get a case of beer for the weekend and there are people who literally can’t afford to put food on the table that night.

Yeah the point is everyone says this needs to be provincial.

Then why is there an existing Federal program. Why don't the feds step up and fix it. If it makes no sense to be Federal, as I was assured yesterday... then why does it exist?

I already know that no matter how illogical, Ford is to blame for everything right now, so answer how you want, or don't. I'm not going further with this today

You ordered McDonald's for lunch eh? Bold move.

I can't do that until the weather gets good I can start riding a bike again.

I could if I ate in the basement and said I was only allowed to use the washoom on the top floor. The dash up the stairs while clenching and holding 'it in' would burn off the garbage calories in no time!

I look forward to hearing Hughson say tonight:

Yeah, don't ask.

And how many people who work in companies that offer it call in sick on a Monday morning or work at 50% hung over or spend too much time shooting the poop.

Why is this about blame? This needs to be provincial because it responds to a provincial problem. The feds provide a baseline program. Provinces provide more targeted programs as required. I don’t blame Ford for the way the country is set up. This the way things are.

While I think we're usually on the same page about sweets, I will go out on a limb and say that cookies are overrated.

Speaking of, I bought 6 donuts at the grocery store on a 100% impulse buy but they might be some of the greatest donuts I've ever had.

Sounds like a week and a bit. Along the same line as Hyman. Not season ending as I thought it might be when he got his feet tangled.
