Kessel was retained through a trade with much more term left - obie
And actual stats to his name to justify a return.

If you think about it and extrapolate it honestly you'll probably find it makes sense, regardless of the percentage on it. I just vividly remember that stat from a few different sales and marketing books - Takemedrunkimhome
I think 98% might be an exaggeration, but yeah I would expect a very high number, people aren't completely rational very often lol

I wouldn't buy him out.
Drouin, when playing his best, can help this team.
But history seems to show us that when the guy starts playing terribly.
There's no bottom at the end of that barrell. He's hurting the team right now, killing offensive plays, lapses defensively and no intensity whatsoever.
Let him sit, do some video, heal injuries, whatever.
He can't continue down this path and neither can we. - Scabeh
Completely agree. Coach him the (frank) up. Don't be afraid to be a little tough on him. Simply my point is buying him out would be silly for a number of reasons. |

Buying him out would be an emotional reaction that stands in the face of reason. There's a spot for him in the NHL, if not at his full salary at some point of retention to get a return, in which case the hit is only two years and even at 50% is only $2.75, with an asset return. People always say don't turn so and so into a whipping boy and then things go south and so and so becomes a whipping boy. Emotional decisions lead to ruin, rational thought should always rule the day. (Science has proven the average person makes 98% of their decisions based on emotions rather than rational thoughts - don't be like these people) - Takemedrunkimhome
my point was more about the cap space. if you need that cap space. but you're right about trading him and retaining salary, even though you pay more over those 2 years. either way, he's never going to amount to anything here because he's not a core guy, he's a complementary guy to high-end players, and he's not surrounded by high-end players here. i see him kind of like a reverse John LeClair. if you trade him to Boston and put him on a line with Pastrnak he'll notch 65 assists.

Fair assessment, I like the reverse LeClair point |

so what you're basically saying is the habs are currently a complimentary team, since they don't really have any high-end talent...

Toffoli, Anderson, Gallagher, Tatar are not high end talent, yet they still manage to be very effective on a team that clearly lacks high end talent, what's Drouin excuse again? Oh yea, not enough high end talent around him... |

lol what? Anderson has fewer points than Drouin, and he and Toffoli have cooled way off since their hot start. Tatar is on a 20-goal pace. i wouldn't exactly call these players "very effective" these days.
as for Gallagher.. completely different type of player who is just wired differently.

I mean, Allen is great but even he can't be optimal with 2 games in 24h.
