Bigger picture - Nylander, Strome, Gaudette, Vinny, Suter, Kurashev and Borgstrom make up more than 50% of the Hawks forwards who have any talent at all offensively. Not many NHL teams would be pining the services of any of these guys except maybe Kurashev. Pretty much tells you how much work Bowman has to do to get this team competitive.
- RickJ

Not sure I agree with that statement. Strome and Suter have proven they belong in the NHL, maybe not necessarily pining for them, but they will remain in the NHL. Nylander is still young enough that some team will be pining for him for the next couple of seasons at least until he finally proves he does or doesn't belong. This may be the final chance for Borgstrom and Gaudette before they are classified as filler. Vinny is more or less at his ceiling, he isn't blocking anyone, and most likely he is one of the first to sit to give anyone else a chance.

Suter kind of reminds me of Kahun. he put up 35 pts his first 2 years and is on a 1 year contract foe under $! mil. its funny with the flat Cap UFA's are getting paid less then RFA's.

The way you described Hinostroza's growth since breaking into the league is exactly what Altybarmakian and Soderlund need to do. Their frenetic pace and spirited play are fun to watch but they need to parlay those into productive results or else it's just wasted energy.

Altybarmakian is further along than Soderlund as he at least invests in the team game. Soderlund needs to realize he has teammates and not do everything himself putting on a clinic to dance around everyone on the other team.

- Theo Fox

Yes that is a good point what Altybarmakian and Soderlund need to do. If both start doing that on a consistent basis, I believe YOU move them to the spot above Kyrs on YOUR list (like your list). As you have also explained, both of the forwards need another year AHL

As i have pointed out adding as many as six gritty forwards on bottom two lines -with a more distinct physical game than seen from this year's group, this ramps up the compete level. Then the cycling board games we do not get beaten badly by Vegas. But of course we need two new top six forwards and quite likely they come from The Entry Draft. And that is if it happens to be the best player available. That philosophy is what Bowman probably goes with

While perhaps another dman is drafted maybe in round one - five dmen ranked in top 15 in draft rating roughly a month ago - I can find solace in a dman if Boqvist and or other lightweight dmen experience concussions. But again I know we are very likely taking the best player available.

I hope they determine a forward this year and one forward, one dman from the '22 deep draft is the best players available

Really hoping that this young team can play inside the dots tonight. They've done a fantastic job against us so far.

In other words, play up to your namesake. Yeah the Preds have been an annoying thorn in the Hawk side since about 2017. Would be nice to get a win tonight.

Yea i think whoever the goalie is, most times only has to play half the ice and has to make the initial save, I'd love to see maybe 1 pass or 2 while 2 guys are going to the net and shoot. Bump the goalie several times in the 1st period to let him know it's going to be one of those kind of nights.

The Preds (along with a number of other top teams) seem to throw as much at the net as possible and have at least one of their players either at or crashing the net when they do. As you've alluded, the Hawks would be smart to copy that method.

Hagel is out for tonight's game due to COVID precaution.

Lankinen gets the start.

And we get a look-see at Gaudette:

DeBrincat-Dach-Gaudette (!)

Looks like Mitchell sitting as de Haan is back from his hip issue. Boqvist still out. Stillman-Big Z is a pairing.

I'm surprised you aren't more concerned about de Haan-Murphy.

Yup. Just a bit too much chaos with the Hawks in their own end.

Also - Jeebus Strome is slow.

Another knock on the man to man D, Kampf along the boards to help Hawks lose the board battle and his guy beats him to the net which creates some great chances

This period has been rough for him. I see a double edged sword, I'm sure gaffes would go down if his toi was shorter, but he's still the hawks best d man.

Colliton should take a page from his own book. In ot, he switches him after a fo win. As soon as the puck is in the o zone when Kampf is on the ice, switch him. He is good defensively, but a black hole offensively.

Knock the player, Carolina plays the same system, watch how they execute the man to man.
