I was just texting with my brother - this shouldn't have come as a huge surprise.

Giant emotional game for the Canucks.

Leafs let their guards down, mentally.

Tuesday will be telling.

And putting all that psychologimacal mumbo-jumbo aside, your goalie was spectacular. No need to look further than that.

On the other hand Bloatsie, giving them the lions share of the profits ends up making the other teams less competitive. Does that, in turn, affect league profits?
- Aetherial

The “league” is whatever the owners say it is and they are making that point now.

The teams within the Super League will just compete in the super league leaving the national league without their main attractions. Let’s be honest , who gives a poop about West Brom or Sheffield United? But fans around the world care greatly about Liverpool, Man U, and AC Milan.

I think the owners have the domestic leagues by the balls in this situation.

I'm guessing I'm wrong on this, but why the frank wouldn't the big teams create their own league - not a mid-week competition, but an actual league?

It would make jillions of dollars, and it would be much more competitive than the crap that is all across Europe right now.

PSG has won 7 of the last 8 championships.

It's like having a Canadian domestic hockey league with no salary cap, and Toronto is playing teams in Owen Sound and Kenora.

Because every now and then you have a Leicester City and we all forget about how stupid their model is.

The loss yesterday was meaningless other than instilling some doubt in leaf fan about their team’s “character” and a moral victory for Canucks and their fans in a horse poop season.

You're such an ass kisser. Beating the Leafs is always fun, plain and simple.

I enjoy callers into TSN. Everyone loves saying the leafs can't compete with Washington and Boston after their competitive afternoon game yesterday.

Except, Boston doesn't have a great goalie. They did improve with Hall but the leafs have the same or even better forwards.

They then also say only the leafs are racking up points against teams like the Canucks and senators who are in the bottom half of the league. Nevermind the Sabres, devils, red wings, ducks, etc.

- Aaron_85

Right on. What ever fits their narrative. Anytime they want to pasture James Duthie will be good as well. Getting a bit tired of his mindless quizzes between periods.

I never said it wasn’t fun. I just think it’s funny that leaf fan is tearing themselves apart trying to rationalize it all. Sometimes a bad team beats a good team. It happens all the time.

And... I’m just trying to support my narrative that Holtby is a worthless piece of poop signed to a poopty contract.

Was TSN radio and a listener called in.

I don't mind Duthie. Someone ratted out the quiz master during trade deadline. I think it's a producer and not Duthie with the questions. I have no idea why it's still a thing because I don't think anyone cares.

It IS funny watching people over analyze a single game. Who cares? As you said bad teams beat good teams all the time. It's why fans of bad teams watch their team while being bad. In hopes last night happens.

Also, a listener who called into TSN radio this morning said Holtby is the guy the leafs should have taken at the deadline. I highly disagree and hope Seattle takes him in their expansion draft for you. Actually, what draft pick would you trade to guarantee they do?

I'm just googling around now, but good lord, the system is even stupider than I thought.

Germany: Bayern Munich has won the last 8 in a row.

France: PSG has won 7 of the last 8.

Premier League: Combined, Man U, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea have won 25 of the last 28 championships.

Scotland (ha!): Last time a team other than Rangers or Celtic won it: 1985.

Spain: in the past 16 years, only one team other than Barcelona and Real Madrid have won it.

Italy: Juventus have won the last 9 championships.

What the frank is the point of domestic leagues?

Seattle won’t take him because Holtby’s agent (frank)ed Benning in negotiations by backloading his contract. Holtby is going to make $5.7M next season.

That’s essentially expansion protection as it gets.

I don’t trade draft picks under any circumstances. Never. Draft till you die.

Have any of the other top teams had streaks like the Leafs have had twice this year?
- Aetherial

Two weeks ago the VGK has a 5 game losing streak.

Went 1-3 over a 4 game stretch early in the year.

That was looking up only that team...I will assume others have as well because its hockey and the leafs aren't the only teams that lose.

Monday morning edition of fun with Excel:

If the leafs go 6-5 over their 11 remaining games, they would have 73 points.

Winnipeg needs to go 8-3 to get to 73 points.

Edmonton needs to go 9-3-1 to get to 73 points.

Montreal needs to go 13-1 to get to 73 points.

They need to beat the Jets twice this week, and then put it in cruise control.

#CBJ  John Tortorella says Max Domi will be a healthy scratch tonight vs. #FlaPanthers .

Torts doesn’t seem to like his new players he got. If I was the GM I’d be a little ticked my coach is benching them and sewering their trade value.

In 1995, European football was changed due to the Bosman-regulation.
Before that time, there were rules similar to salary caps, drafts etc. in European football leagues (just different rules, mainly based on max number of foreign players that could play for a team in a match).
Prior to this new Bosman-law - it was possible for teams outside of Germany, Italy, Spain, UK and France to compete with biggest teams (on a European level).
In most national competitions, there were always 2-6 strong teams, with some other teams only competing for a title from time to time (but still possible).

European leagues are broken since 1995 -- I have stopped following football since around that time.

Teams always prefer to win the league over the FA Cup and equivalents.
