I can’t imagine walking away from millions but I hope he has a serious conversation with himself. It’s time to hang them up unfortunately. He’s had some serious injuries to his head (concussions, almost lost an eye, broken cheekbone). I fear for his health long term.
Last thing I want to read is him (or anybody for that matter) hurting himself or others because of CTE. |

He could walk away and still get paid the rest of his salary. Just have a doctor say it's too dangerous for him to keep getting hit in the head. Wouldn't be hard to find a neurologist to agree with that sentiment
Sidenote: Okposo has 8 mil in real cash left on his deal. After $2m in bonus money on July 1, there's only $6m left over the last 2 years. He's made $34m of the $42m |

snagged this:
Cap Recapture Penalty
Article 50.5 -Upon that Player’s failure to play in the League by reason of retirement, “defection” from the NHL or otherwise (but not death) (such that he is not playing and is not receiving Salary pursuant to his Long-Term Contract) (assuming it is prior to the conclusion of the Long-Term Contract), the difference between the sum of the Actual Salary and Bonuses received by that Player under that SPC and the sum of the Averaged Amounts charged against the Club’s Averaged Club Salary under that SPC shall be calculated as follows:
(i) First, calculate the total Actual Salary and Bonuses paid to that Player under that SPC (“Total Payment”) until the date of such retirement, defection or otherwise (but not death); k.o. $34M
(ii) Second, calculate the total Averaged Amount charged against the Club’s Averaged Club Salary for the Player under that SPC (“Total Cap Charge”) until the date of such retirement, defection or otherwise (but not death); k.o. $24m
(iii) Subtract Total Cap Charge from Total Payment. That number shall be referred to as the “Cap Advantage Recapture.” k.o. $10M
(iv) The Cap Advantage Recapture shall be charged against the Club’s Averaged Club Salary in equal proportions in each League Year over the remaining term of the SPC (i.e., the yearly charge shall be calculated by dividing the Cap Advantage Recapture by the number of seasons remaining under that SPC). k.o. $5m each remainaing year on his contract

And that’s if he retires. If he is ltir due to health issues, it’s a different calculation, isn’t it...

in a very simplified explanation, ltir allows a team to go over the cap by the players cap-hit, i believe...so it would be better to go with ltir from the sabres perspective |

That’s not good! I wish him the best. I really do. But the poor guy has got to hang em up... go play in the harbor center. Be a development guy. Let Matty Ellis put a small development staff together... - Gr8daygo

And won't listen |

And I doubt a broken cheekbone will move the needle at all, especially since he has played well at times this year. |

Why is Drake Caggiula still in covid protocol but players traded 3 days later get to go play for their new teams right away? |
