Until the Kraken's final expansion fee payment is official later this month, Francis and his braintrust can't make trades. What can occur is conversations and even "handshake" agreements that will focus on the Kraken receiving certain added value or assets (players, draft choices) if they do or don't select a certain player from a team. In all, 30 NHL franchises except Vegas (which doesn't share in the expansion fee) will lose one player each.

So after they pay there expansion fee at the end of the month, Buffalo can start setting things up with them, it just can't be announced until the draft.
- Buff36

i think they can start at any time...just can't make anything official until certain things are completed, like the expansion fee

get Beniers in the draft. then you have him and Cozens at C moving forward.
get Dahlin and Eichel back on track.
toughest part is figuring out the goaltending.

Thurman Thomas has actually been trying to get an ownership group going for an NHL team in Houston for over a decade now.

He's a huge hockey fan, from the area. I actually just created a team in my NHL be a GM, I moved Arizona to Houston.

Pretty big hockey market down there actually.

Might have problems with ice quality - They should build the rink below ground-level imo.

U18’s start up in a week. Interested to see how Guenther does. I think we are sleeping on him.

Averaged 2 PPG in the WHL. Very good primary point statistics.

Important to consider the WHL is younger than in past seasons, still impressive nonetheless.

Problem there is that he potentially has too much worth to expose. I guess if he's exposed, you'll know how low his value is. I struggle to believe he's exposed though. I honestly think KA wants him here and I think you know that too.

That also would mean Adams is comfortable extending Ristolainen, and that is one scary thought.

the sabres could have a young duo at defense (power.dahlin) or a young duo at c coming out of the draft (cozens.beniers)

I expect a risto extension this summer

miller, girgens or okposo plus a pick is what I expect for seattle

- homiedclown

That would be a very, very bad move by Adams.

It would show all their talk about shifting focus on analytics and changing the core is baloney.

I'm not sleeping on Guenther I think he could be another dylan Cozens as a wing for his career

If we don't have an opportunity to get beniers it's an easy choice

The reason why I don't have him ranked higher for us is I always draft the center

Or a high end winger in Eklund/Guenther to pair with Cozens.

This draft to me is a wild card.

Beniers is the safe pick and plays the most important position so I definitely give him the edge at the moment. However I question if his skill set makes him more then a 2C at the next level.

Eklund/Guenther may have top line potential and if that’s the case then it’s worth considering.

The three you mentioned should be the Sabres focus and it's why I really hope they land a top 3 pick this time.

That's not a bad thing Regardless he's gonna be the 3rd line centre going forward with jack , Dylan and we've learned center is very important for the future if injuries or trades happen but Beniers Could be that jordan staal role where we have elite centers all around..

But Eklund/Guenther with Cozens could be a nightmare for the nhl

Connor Bedard was going first overall in 2023 even as early as two years ago.

He’s a special talent.
