Draft positional needs: Left D, Center, and at least 1 goalie. (within reason) I would not be surprised if Stevie is able to trade or sign a FA for 1 of those positions this offseason. Goalie options are a plenty! Gonna be an exciting draft and FA!

Unfortunately none of you have really taken a real look at adding a FA. Tell me how signing an FA this off season will help with the end goal? Any FA is either at the end of their prime, or past. We don't need this dead weight when the time comes for us to be competitive. Save the cash for when our homemade stars need it.

Hopefully things will be looking up for the Red Wings in the near future.

There isn't much on the UFA market i would want the Wings to go after. RNH would fill a need but i think he re-signs with the Oilers and even if he hit the market, he likely wouldn't want to be part of a rebuilding team and the Wings would need to vastly overpay. Martinez might be ok if he comes at a decent salary short term but given the state of the team i doubt he would want to play for the Wings or again they would need to overpay on salary and term. Oleksiak would be interesting to add some size and toughness on the back end if they can get him at the right price and term.

Other than that i would just want to add one or two guys that bring some size, physicality and toughness to this soft team and to protect their skilled players from being run over every game with nobody doing anything.

Looks like Albert Johansson won't be coming over to GR or Detroit to end the season. He apparently is on Sweden's preliminary WC camp roster. Might not be a bad thing for him but i don't know how many NHLers are going to go given how things are with the pandemic still...level of competition might not be as high as it might be during normal times.

I think UFA stuff is all about term unless you can get Dougie Hamilton.

2 years for a Tatar. 3 for a RNH. 2 for a Ryan Murray. Stuff like that makes sense. Makes the team better so the prospects are growing in a better environment but doesn’t handcuff the team long term into more Helm, Nielsen, and Dekeysers.

Yeah I get where your coming from, but to get higher end talent, even low tier high end talent to come for 2 or 3 years while we don't overly compete for the playoffs will be hard or costly. Better to just ride it all out overall, let The Captain work his magic through the draft and trades, and in the end it'll pay off even more than trying to speed it up a little. I want multiple cups, you get that now by a strong core that grows together, and are signed properly, fairly, for term in their prime years. You only get that by drafting, patience, and a little bit of luck. For the next season I say bargain 1 year deals, keep the cap wide open to aquire more picks at the tdl from helping teams again.
