Million $ question: Is he a HoFer? - Bean_Dip
I'm a big believer that longevity alone, while impressive, shouldn't get you in. I think in Marleau's case I'd make an exception. He's sitting at roughly 1,200 points, almost 600 goals. The numbers don't jump off the page but I think they're good enough combined with the fact that he's played the most games ever to get him in. If he doesn't get in I don't think it's a crime though. |

32 missed games in 23 seasons played. Crazy.
It will be interesting. Definitely one of those tweener guys for me. The games played is an incredible feat and a record that might not ever be broken. Unfortunately, his stats and accomplishments might keep him out.
If Marleau makes it, does Yandle? - Bean_Dip
Jagr should have this record by like 100 games if he didn’t leave for those few seasons. That’s kind of a bummer.

So If you question his desire to play, why would you want him?? Nashville isnt the same situation as ROR was in Buffalo. - Brukie
I figured by me saying that I question his desire to play that I wouldnt trade for him. |

Right? Curious where Jagr would have ended up in a bunch of categories if he didn't leave.
Also, Ovi has been straight up screwed in regards to potentially being #1 all time for goals. 1 full lockout season, 1 shortened lock out season, and 2 shortened seasons because of covid. |

I think Ovi still gets there.
Marleau is 100% a HOF member. He's no slouch on the stats side plus the games played is the cherry. |

Agreed on Marleau.
Ovi is a tough call. History says he'll do it, but 40+ goals a year through your late 30's would be unprecedented to put it mildly. |

Maybe if he plays 700 more games and gets close to 900 points for his career but I'm going with (frank) no. |

Ovi is bordering on super human. That goal record will fall even if he drops in production because I expect him to play into his 40's. |

All Ovi has to do in his twilight years is stand in the hash on the PP. Thats 20 goals easy there. |

Aaah. The Andreychuk method!
I swear I thought before he retired the Leafs were going to petition to have him exempt from the offside rule!! |

You're right that sounds ridiculous. The point I was making that on a per game basis those numbers don't jump off the page. He's put up about 0.67 ppg. Those are good numbers, especially considering the longevity, but that's low for HoF consideration. |

Yea man, if you ask any NHL forward if they could average (+/-) 50 points per year for their entire career, guaranteed majority of them wouldnt even flinch at taking it. |

He's 50th in career points, and 23rd in career goals. All the players around him in goals are in the hall, I don't see anything keeping him out.

Again, I said I'm rooting for him to get in. But look at people near his goal totals and point totals and tell me that in one game you'd prefer Marleau. He's a great player but at no point in his career was he a top player in the league, which I think is kind of a requirement for the HoF. He was a 6-time all star in 23 years, and has never been in the conversation for any individual trophy. No cups and never scored more than 86 points in a season, which is a good year but a bit of an outlier for him. That was the year they got Thornton who won the Hart. Marleau was 19th in points that year.
I hope he gets in because what he's accomplished is incredibly impressive and by all accounts he's a really good dude, but I can absolutely see an argument against him getting in. |
