My thought behind a veteran (Getzlaf type FA pick up) is that we get him for a year, costs us nothing. Then Id try to flip Chytil for another young stud center, like Kupari although Kupari is probably right about NHL early. Its a tricky timing thing of whens the right time and whos the right move.

I think the Kings are the front runners now for Jack Eichel

Buffalo wants young centers in their deal and they have em

Im using Kupari more as reference rather than an exact person to target.

I wouldnt touch a guy getting spine surgery, fk that they can have Eichel. Ive seen enough of them to know that once you get spine surgery, theres no going back.

As someone with back issues that started at 28 (33 now), hell (frank)ing no to any player with back issues.

Who do we realistically have to evaluate though? We don't need to evaluate guys Like Fox, Miller, Buch, etc. All of the guys that would be anticipated to take a lion's share of the time on ice we would have information on.

Just as Jim and others have said the direction of the team changed when we got LAF. Well I'm saying the direction of the team changed again when Fox possibly wins the Norris. You possibly have a really young Norris winning piece needing a long term extension, that a major change.

I just feel if you have pieces that could win the Norris, Vezina, or Hart in a single year, it's not time to be patient anymore? You have the cheap contracts/depth and the ammunition to go get whatever you feel the need to put you over the top. That's when you build around around your outstanding core and finish the job. We need young pieces to supplement and then replace some guys when inevitably some pieces have to leave during the cap, we don't need to build per se anymore.

Theoretically, the Rangers could turn over Smith and Hajek. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee Blackwell or Rooney will be back. Meaning they may be looking at a new 4th line/3rd line pieces. Also, I do believe a trade will be coming this summer. Don't know who, but it feels that way. Which means there could be decent turnover to have out ready prospects int he lineup next year. Then after next year we know exactly what we get in them. Just theories and thoughts.

I agree for the most part. But, I feel like they will not move Blackwell. When has there ever been better value out of a free agent signing?? Even to give him a raise to double his salary only makes it $1.4M. Rooney, unfortunately we may have to move on from to fit in Barron. Which seems like it may well be an upgrade. Capt'n Rooney has cooled off significantly.

Yea. That's why I said may. No one can fully predict what they will do or what offers will be on the table. I do think the backend gets new people...hopefully Schneider next year.
I am not saying the Rangers are far off. I guess I am being cautious with getting too jumpy to a deep playoff run. Hell, I hope I am wrong completely and they are ready by playoff time next year.

I started the year as a big cheerleader for moving Strome for a high end name. However Ive backed off on that alot, its undeniable how good hes been with the offense. However the issue I see is with our even strength 2C playing on the PP1 and not good enough on FO and defense to play PK, it leaves a avoid that Chytil cant fill. And honestly we cant constantly put the weight of every special teams burden on Zib. Which is why Ive been all about getting a more traditional center in place of Chytil.

Theres articles out there calling for Trouba to be captain, if that happens I have a hard time believing that hes bought out like Ive been predicting in 2023 or 24.

I was actually wondering the same thing - if he's named captain I assume the intent would be to keep him the entire contract, otherwise buying him out just doesn't look great.

If the big trade never materializes, two moves rangers can do to improve center is trade for Ryan Johansen and sign Luke Glendening.

-Trade Nashville Chytil for Johansen straight up-

BUT Nashville MUST retain 40%-50%. So figure we pay him between 3-5 million to be our 3rd line center. He’s a terrific faceoff man, only 28 and has leadership qualities. If I recall during their cup run, he got hurt and it galvanized the whole team. He’s lost a step, but 3 rd line center is generally paid like that regardless and he’s more of a 2C than a 3C imo. Probably would be motivated by a change of scenery. Play him with shooters, ie-Kreider and Krav

And glendening wins faceoffs in his sleep. The guy is amazing winning faceoffs

It gives them what is, imo the only real bugaboos, center depth, faceoff wins and some more veterans/leadership. And we are not breaking the bank to improve.

Two things I’m learning this year are- Strome has to stay and center isn’t as big a need as we all think. Strome and Bread have to much chemistry

Maybe they don’t need the home run trade, just a double

I still think Chytil is starting on this team next year. If the growth of our younger players continues its upwards trend and they are in a playoff spot I do see the Rangers going out and getting that vet center. I don't think it will come at Chytil's expense unless its a bigger splash.

David Quinn said he doesn't know how long it'll be until we see Zac Jones in #NYR lineup:

"It's been hard because we haven't had a lot of team practices, it's been tough with judging. He's got a quick brain, quick stick, great skill set, really understands the game."

So Bitetto, who was on for two NJ goals in the third on Sunday, played one shift in the final 14:01 and sat for the final 8:33, is in again tonight v NYI while Hajek is scratched again. I don't get it.

Finally agree with Brooks about something. Does it have to do with the seattle draft??

I'm not sure, I thought I had read already that he already qualified

Bitetto is a disaster, especially on the road where opponent controls matchups

That's Ryan Johansen of 4 goals the whole season btw. I mean if we just want to get an extra guy as a faceoff guy, just do that. As I said with Getzlaf, not interested in trading Chytil unless it's a clear cut upgrade. Chytil will be a good player in this league, I don't want my discussions above to make people think he won't be.
