they also have to keep making trades or letting players walk because no one wants to play there - picklerick
They also do dumb things like trade a guy with a year plus left on his deal because he cries about playing there. Could have easily kept PLD through this whole season and dealt him at the deadline next year if they wanted. Instead now this offseason they'll get to play the same game they did last year with PLD but with Laine instead.
I hate the Islanders but you have to respect how they handled the Tavares BS.

it happened to work out for the islanders but i can't think of any other situations in which a star player walked for nothing and the team came out the other side better for it. You don't even have to find another team to look at to see that in practice. Panarin leaving CBJ for nothing is proving to be catastrophic. They had a good underdog season last year but now look at them |

i dont see a world in which we benefit from not playing K'andre and Fox 20+ minutes. A commentary on how good they are, not the quality of the other D men. - picklerick
In small doses, I agree. But, in the NHL it is unlikely anyone can play 25-28 minutes a game without some fatigue. If we have 6 guys we can count on fully. I feel that keeping them all fresh would be beneficial over the long haul. I may have been a little simplistic in calling it even across the board.
My point was that we could be in an enviable position with how they can help each other. |

why? 3 teams in his almost 6 year career. a good rookie season and one other good season after that. seems like another player that would cause more harm than good. - picklerick
On a one year prove it deal I think with the right team he could produce |

I'm just glad they got nothing for him, when you look at what we got for Rick Nash, I am sure Boston would have given more for Tavares at that time

i agree with that. i still think K'Andre and Fox need to play 22-24 minutes probably. Whether that is on the same pairing or if they keep the pairings they have now i have no idea |

The only thing I have ever liked about the isles is As soon as Tavares walked they retired Goring's number. Just a Fraak You! on the way out the door |

Butch Goring, Bob Bourne and John Tonelli were such pains in the asses
you could put a game plan to focus on stopping Gillies-Trottier-Bossy but then those 3 would kill you |

I would love Domi on the Rangers - nyrangers2
Ehhhh. I feel like thats almost like getting Brenden Lemieux back but with a bit more scoring. I dont think thats the right move for the franchise.
Personally, I think if we are to contend for the Cup next year, the correct move for the Rangers is to get an aging vet like Getzlaf for the third line. He will be a FA, we can sign him for 2 yrs at like 5m per.
1. This instantly gives PP2 a legit center.
2. This makes our PK better as hes fantastic on faceofffs and overall a solid defender.
3. Can play with the kids and teaching them. Not many better teachers the last 20y to learn a 200ft game.
4. Gives us reliable depth at center should someone get hurt or sick.
5. Overall just having a veteran like him on the roster would be a big help with a playoff run. |

Yeah, I no longer see how he is an overall upgrade over who we have now.
I personally, don't want any more moves other than fitting in Barron and fresh D prospects for the near future. |

I don't know, I got the impression from the trade deadline talk he was only willing to take a trade to vegas and if he doesn't retire wants to stay on west coast |

Getzlaf would be a good pick up as long as he can keep up skating wise. |

Panarin didn't leave for nothing, he stayed so they could hang a banner for finally winning 1 playoff round |

If thats the case that kinda sucks. If feel like with so many kids, a veteran like him could help balance things out. |

Probably the best fit that has been mentioned yet.
But, I am still leery about what subtractions we would have to accept to get him in the line up. |

Getzlaf is a UFA. That aside replacing a then 22 year old center who is on the upswing for an aging veteran presence (albeit i understand the reason for wanting his experience) doesn't seem like a good deal for us asset wise |

Lol leave it to me to say sign Getzlaf cause hes a free agent and then trade for him.
Is Chytil on an upswing? I dont think so. I think as fans some people put this veil over their eyes when it comes to talking about Chytil.
We trade Chytil for a future 1st round pick or something and call it a day.
Getzlaf is a stop gap until we end up in a situation where we have to decide the future of the defense in 3 years. |

Getz is a FA, we wouldnt have to trade anything for him. Lol.
But we could get back a late 1st, early 2nd rd pick for Chytil. |

I know that you are completely done with Chytil, I just haven't seen any evidence to make me believe the Rangers are
