Awesome, plenty of friends who played/probably help build that rink.

There used to be a fenced in area behind one of the disused Imperial Tobacco Warehouse buildings in St Henri, close the gate and you only had to chase the ball if someone ripped it 20 feet over the net.

Our farm was the hotspot. Frank me, I don’t know how my mom did it. Parents of all my buddies (hockey and ball teams) just dropped them off after hockey practice and picked them up before dinner on weekends. My momsie fed all of us, and drinks all day. The reason we were the hot spot - Paved driveway with an attached garage at one end, and a huge detached garage exact opposite about 100’ away. Garage door to garage door, smooth asphalt. Then later in the year we would move inside our tobacco barn that was the shape of a hockey rink. And...when we wanted to hit the ice, one of our irrigation ponds was tucked in a forest with deep banks to protect us from the wind and keep pucks in, plus it was almost the same size as our actual hockey rink.
I cannot imagine the hours we spent with a hockey stick on our hands.

I’d come home and be crying after 10 hours on the ice - momma bear would rub my feet whilst I cried like a baby.

My pops drove us back to that pond, dropped us off and said he’d be back in a couple hours. Because he was coming back, we left our boots in the truck. Two hours, three hours, four hours. We’re freezing! It’s my place, my dad, off I go walking home across fields, across a road, up our driveway and into the house with my skates on. Pops fell asleep, woke up and had completely forgotten about us. My skate blades were franked.
